FFS, take the L you old hag. MOP is the perfect acronym for her because she looks like a dirty old mop. Bitter, angry, and looks to be losing her mind. Fade away already you loser.

Take the L, BR

Didn’t she get tossed from the lower court case for lack of standing?

I don’t see the state SC reversing that.

I would love a detailed account of all the services the parish provided to St. George, specifically using the 2% sales tax taken out of the general fund.

Supporters of St. George said Monday they believe they are entitled to taxes collected from their area over the past five years, the time period that St. George was tied up in a legal fight.

Pierson said, if that is the case, she believes the parish should be paid back for any services and improvements the parish provided during that time frame.

Does she really think that the city would come out ahead if this was the case?

Baton Rouge is like the jilted lover who can’t accept that it’s over.

StG just isn’t into you anymore.

I didn't realize you could just ask for a do-over without some new information coming to light.

Pierson says the request will include multiple issues for the state’s highest court to reconsider. She did not elaborate on what those issues are.

1. We don't like the ruling.
2. We really don't like the ruling.
3. We really, really don't like the ruling.
4. Did I mention we don't like the ruling?

That was Broome that was removed.

There were three original plaintiffs.

SWB, Lamont Cole, and a third individual that I believe was MOP.

One got tossed at the trial level, SWB got tossed at the appeals level, and I believe Cole got tossed at the SC level.

They're going to do everything they can to fight and prolong it. I give it to the liberal mindset. They're like pitbulls once they latch on. Reasonable people would take the L, realize the will of the people, and move on.

I think she is stalling for time as well as trying desperately to reduce the amount BR has to fork over.

Problem is that they have been intentionally fricking St George for most of that time period, so the results will not be what she thinks it will be.

At a point, the courts are going to tell them “It’s happening, we aren’t going to put a stay in” and, at best, they are horse trading about money.

Applications for rehearings are pretty common. Getting one granted, however, is pretty rare.

Why should StG pay anything back to the parish? We are still part of the parish and won't be cutting funding to parish services.

What we won't be doing is giving th city services money.

She is trying to do anything possible to cut the money going back.

Problem is that, no matter how you slice it, BRPD and BRFD get their slice from the General Fund once the money goes in. There isn’t enough parish spending from the rest of the fund that could have been done on St George to offset something in the $25-50m range.

From the advocate. I’m not linking that garbage news site.

quote:

Baton Rouge Mayor Pro Tem Lamont Cole will ask the state's highest court for a new hearing on the incorporation of St. George to address key missing details from the previous ruling, according to his attorney Mary Olive Pierson.
"I don't know why they're so anxious to get involved in this," Pierson said of St. George's organizers. "They don't understand that this case is not over yet."

But Pierson said the Supreme Court failed to address to major components of the incorporation: the city's official boundaries and date of incorporation. Both are up to the courts to decide, according to state law.

Pierson added these issues will likely need to be remanded to a lower court to resolve.

"It's just going to be a mess," Pierson said. "The Supreme Court does not have the ability to fix those two problems."

Andrew Murrell, a spokesman for St. George, said the city officially incorporated when they won their election in 2019 and that the boundaries match those outlined in their petition to incorporate from years ago.

"I would like somebody to ask why they continue going down this path," Murrell said. "What are they hoping to accomplish by dividing the citizens of their own parish?"

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and Cole sued organizers soon after, claiming the new city failed to comply with state law and would harm Baton Rouge's services and finances by taking away $48 million in tax revenue annually.

A district court sided with Baton Rouge leaders, saying the St. George plan was not "reasonable." So did an appeals court, which said the plan didn't meet all the requirements of state law — though that court removed Broome for the lawsuit for lack of standing, leaving only Cole left to challenge the incorporation effort before the Supreme Court.

Pierson said there were several other issues they took with the Supreme Court's ruling, including their determination that St. George could operate with a balanced budget, but that she would not provide further details at this time.

"Those people are going to be broke on day one," Pierson said.

Pierson said they plan to file their request for a rehearing before their deadline of May 10.

The Supreme Court literally said they would be operating at a surplus on day 1. In fact, a 16 million dollar surplus. And the doesn’t include potential back taxes for nearly 5 years OH WE GONNA BE SO BROKE
