I saw this statistic pop up today about the massive drop in the NBA viewing audience. This was based off of the data provided by Nielsen Ratings.
Why do you think the NBA audience has disappeared?

Quality of play and social nonsense
The bizarre part is that the salaries have skyrocketed in that 12 years.

I think this is only because how difficult it is to watch your team, it’s gotten better in the last 2 years, but 2010-2021, that was terrible, plus you need cable. The NFL model is perfect, except for TNF

I'm more interested in hearing from people who actually watch regular season NBA games frequently. Do they watch their favorite team or player exclusively? Do they actually care if they win or lose or are they just entertained regardless?
I can get watching playoff anything but regular season sports outside of football seems like a chore.

Some of it prob has to do with the fact that they travel all over the place without getting called, they flop everywhere, and don’t play defense.

Bc the NBA product blows now. They lost their middle aged fan base with the transfer to their new stars. The season is like 7 to 8 months long. Playoff series last weeks. I watch college and zero pro. Don’t even watch highlights.

I'll say this as gently as possible....
I don't feel that it's a "my people" type of sport, if you know what i mean.

I haven't watched an NBA game since the 90s, but I've tried a few times. It just doesn't have anything that interests me. I'd much rather watch the NCAA tournament where a team of scrappy nobodies play for the name on the front of their jersey instead of the back.

The semifinal matchup for that cup thing was basically even with WWF wrestling Saturday night. That’s how bad it’s gotten.

A new record was set the other day where 75 three pointers were missed in one game. No one wants to watch teams chuck 3s all game. Its boring AF

There are no new young generational superstars.
No Kobes, LeBrons, or Steph Currys, just a bunch of weird arse thugs. Add to it boring, no defense street ball.
