New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon canceled for 2023-2030

The organizers of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in New Orleans have announced they are cancelling their 2023 race, which was planned for the weekend of March 4-5.
In a post on its website, the organization notes that its February 2022 event, which was relocated from its traditional route through the French Quarter due to "pandemic disruptions", did not live up to expectations or "give the taste of New Orleans culture" runners had come to expect.
Since then, the statement says organizers have been working with the Mayor's office, the New Orleans Police Department and other key stakeholders "on all potential event options" for the 2023 race.
"However, despite doing our very best to find a solution towards reentering the heart of New Orleans, we have learned there is not an ability to return to the French Quarter," the statement said. "While the community at large has been tremendously supportive and helpful in exploring alternative solutions, there are no acceptable alternative settings that live up to the historic qualities of the race and therefore we are regretfully no longer able to bring you the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans experience."
Records show organizers have also canceled all future Rock 'n' Roll races in New Orleans. According to minutes from the July board meeting of the Ernest N. Morial Exhibition Hall Authority, Rock 'n' Roll has canceled marathons that were on the books from 2024 through 2030.
Together, those event weekends would have attracted an expected 140,000 visitors to the city, or 20,000 per year, and generated 14,000 hotel stays.“

Cliff Notes: New Orleans is a crime infested shite hole and we don’t want to ruin our brand by having people get murdered attending our events.

If I remember correctly, the race had to be run entirely on the lakefront last year. I suppose lack of police made it impossible to secure a marathon in the city. Good job Teedy just more evidence of the shite job that you’ve done.

20,000
Assuming each person spent on average $200 (conservative estimate) in the city, that’s $4 million dollars of lost revenue per year to hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Not to mention the loss of tax revenue from their spending.

Also of concern for them but unmentioned was that they selected the weekend of one of the largest medical conventions of the year and hotel rooms were scarce/very expensive

Just schedule it for midnight. It will serve as another program. Everyone wins!

The neerdowells would definitely be hunting like Uboat Wolfpacks on the naive participants. Everything you love about New Orleans.

That's right. And "did not give the taste of New Orleans culture" is their nice way of saying it was dog shite. Or so I've heard from people who ran the new route. Yet another Latoya effect

Who wants to run the streets of New Orleans and get big whiffs of shite smell while you're trying to run your arse off?

Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon is better

I ran that race a few years back. I almost broke my ankles on all of the potholes in the road.

We’ve brought a group of around 12-16 for the past 8 years before the pandemic hit

They're not awake that early.
I've run the RnR half five(?) times.
Never remotely feared for my safety, definitely feared busting my arse from a gigantic hole in the street.
You definitely have to pay close attention for the vast majority of the race to avoid the cracks/holes.

It’s a net sum zero because there will be 100s of thousands of new tourists as a result of LaToyas Sista City proclamations.

They are looking at safer alternatives such as holding the Alcatraz triathlon (dig dash dive) in the freezing-arse SF Bay Area.

And that's what makes it the quintessential New Orleans event, the Rock and Roll Your Ankle Marathon.

Likely couldn’t get cops to work it because they’re all quitting on Teedy. And the ones who haven’t quit deal with murders everyday.
Is Teedy the worst mayor in Louisiana history?

In the heavyweight class, probably.
A bunch of the flyweight level ones like the mayor of Ball, LA, and Port Allen, LA, were really bad on a smaller scale area.

Probably because 'Rock N Roll' sounds so white.
Probably because 'Marathon' sounds so white.
Being hostile to one race is more important than making money off another Race. Guarantee you if it was the 'Weezy's Dash for Cash' it would be allowed anywhere in the city with full cooperation.
