Twitter race-baiters attack.

Media parrots "crisis" and outrage.

Nike buckles under the pressure.

The original tweet only had 603 Retweets and 1,513 Likes, yet somehow, in a world of billions of people, it was blown up into a scandal.

Story

quote:

Nike has removed a balaclava from its website after critics charged that the design perpetuated violence with “menacing” stereotypes of black youth and allowed the retailer to profit from “gang culture.” The balaclava was created in partnership with Alyx, a brand run by the designer Matthew Williams and known for high-end T-shirts, athletic wear and bomber jackets. A widely circulated image of the balaclava shows a black model wearing the gear, which covers his forehead, mouth, chin and chest and includes straps that some compared to holsters.

Why does the media even pick up on stupid shite like this?? Otherwise it would just be some idiots/trolls on twitter bitching about crap like they always do.

Is this madness ever going to stop??

Hell, members of Congress wore black hoodies on the floor of the house and the senate to protest Trayvon Martin and that was considered "heroic", not stereotyping

The first time I saw this I read it as baclava and was really confused.

Yes, I know it’s spelled baklava.

Now it makes sense. Sometimes you just gotta read a little.

To be fair, a good Balaclava that doesn't roast your head is hard to find...Could use a shemagh made out of that material too

It's probably more fricked up for the people to accuse them of being racist by saying any minority wearing things like this portray them as thugs or criminals. Any model should be able to be hired for a product like this without a second thought. Clearly Nike didn't tell their casting director to racially sterotype when deciding this. i'm sure they just went with the best model from whatever auditions or process they had to pick one. Which is how it should be.

I don't think raising the discussion of the idiocy of the outrage and the media's role in it qualifies as "falling for it and spreading it." Really?

You think by normal folks ignoring it, it will just go away? Doesn't seem to working so far. I think silence makes it appear that there isn't opposition to the lunacy and only condones it.

I can see where the SJWs are coming from.

That model shouldn't be appropriating Muslim culture like that.

Obviously, Nike was just trying to help out our brave ANTIFA freedom fighters with some mask-and-water-holder combination devices in the fight for Communism, for a nominal fee.

They don't care about your opinion, they care about your clicks.

Idk, my first thought when seeing the pic is whoever gave it the OK isn't very smart.

Now, an argument could be made that it's racist to see a black man modeling a balaclava and instantly think it's promoting gang culture.

I wouldn't have even thought of that picture being negative until someone with negative thoughts points it out. I was totally into something like that for hunting or skiing. People are stupid. You only find racism if you're looking for it.

That's a great point, and utterly lost on those racebaiting on it.
