He must've seen some shite:
quote:
Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting, who worked on sex crimes cases in the Orleans Parish DA’s office, died by suicide in his office on January 4, 2025. He was 34 years old and had been assigned to the SAKI unit, which investigates and prosecutes sex crimes cases using DNA evidence. Additionally, there are other individuals named Ian Kersting, including one who lives in Gretna, Louisiana, and another who is 33 years old and resides in New Orleans.

Both sides of the criminal legal system deal with extreme stress basically non-stop. You're constantly dealing with people at their most stressed/most needy/worst (whether defendants or victims/families), you can never reasonably separate from it, you're dealing with gruesome/traumatic material, and everything you touch is extremely important and will have catastrophic impacts if things go wrong.
It's honestly surprising this doesn't happen more often, but it's a gutshot every time it does.

That has to be a very hard job to deal with what he does day to day. Then throw in possible personal problems and it’s horrible.

Can’t imagine what it must be like to be someone who gets into this line of work hoping to make a difference and then just getting beat down over and over.

Of which there is literally zero indication that type of thing had anything to do with this. Again, the constant politicization of every god damned thing is fricking gross. I don't know this guy personally, but a quick google search of their SAKI unit shows that he was working to prosecute cold cases by clearing the SANE kit backlog as part of a grant. If you're under the impression that those kinds of cases are "catch and release", I'm not sure what to tell you.

I thought the guy was making a point that was sort of echoing what you said in your initial post here.

If so, I apologize. I think the post before got me a bit on a hair trigger regarding the politicization issue, so I interpreted the post as "prosecutor tries to better society, but the shite judges and juries keep coddling the criminals so he doesn't accomplish anything".
But if I was wrong on that, then I absolutely apologize to St. Aug

ETA: For added context, I just noticed that the other post I was referring to, and my reply to it, have been hidden/deleted, so now this reply looks entirely out of left field

What about

was even remotely political? Are you sure you were quoting the right thing?

Did the AI kind of slip out there with this bit?

Fair enough but td.com absolutely does not alter replies to different posts if one gets deleted. Be better

Had a family member that worked as an investigator for the state with the online children sex crime division. Those individuals are doing God's work and have the utmost respect from me. I can't even fathom having to do that day in day out.

As always, I quoted the post I was replying to in full in my reply, as I'm doing here. It's standard TD practice (and forum practice generally) to delete replies that quote an offending posts if that post gets deleted. I wasn't saying it was done automatically; I was saying it was done intentionally

But again, I genuinely apologize for misinterpreting your post

Let's hope this is the beginning of a new trend for those scumbags.
