Not sure if Louisiana is serious... Question for Contractors.

So I was looking to get a house build but instead of hiring a contractor, turns out, I CAN take a test and become a contractor myself?
Like...wtf is that legit in the state of Louisiana? Just a simple test and "Here you go, go ahead and build some property Random Guy A!"
I would think you'd need schooling , a BA, trade school experience or something...

Yes, if you can pass the test, meet the financial requirements, carry insurance, and show you have the knowledge to build a house then you can have a contractors license.
In all seriousness, if you can do all of that, shouldn't it be enough?

No idea, but I wouldn't be surprised.

you dont need to be a contractor to sub out building your own house. I've done 2 already

A license isn’t required at all to subcontract your own house.

You don’t even need a test. Next time there’s a flood just go to some baws that got that big insurance check and tell them you’ll do the job at half of the price of the other guys.
Get the cash upfront. Never be seen again. Profit

Make sure you line up your GL/Work Comp prior to filling all paperwork. You should be able to purchase the required insurance for a little over $5k.

Well, the test will include questions that the average person will probably not know without having experience in the business, at least.
BTW, being a "contractor" does not mean the same as a builder. The "contractor" is exactly that. He contracts the work to be done.

There are plenty of licenses out there where all you need to do it pay a fee and have a tiny worthless bond. At least you need to take a test for the construction.

If you can't qualify to be a contractor, you should turn in your baw card.

The test isn't something you're going to just pass easily
Are other states any different?

In the past yes, that is what the main character did in Catch Me If You Can. Pretty sure that loophole was closed a number of years ago and you are required to attend a law school to sit.

That's basically true in every state for a residential contractor.
