The General P.G.T. Beauregard monument – which towered over the traffic circle in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art for years – may have found a new home.
The city is in talks with Greenwood Cemetery to house the seven-ton statue after several months of uncertainty, according to the City Park Improvement Board. Paul Masinter, board member, said the monument’s final location isn’t cemented and could change, but city leaders “are getting close.”
...
Greenwood Cemetery opened in 1852 and houses an entire tomb for unknown Confederate soldiers. The sprawling cemetery sits off City Park Avenue and its above-ground mausoleums are a popular tourist attraction. With the monument’s move – which hasn’t been finalized yet – City Park can finally start cleaning up the roundabout left behind in the scuffle.

Masinter repeatedly referred to the circle as “Beauregard Circle” until another board member mentioned that City Park will have to change the name eventually.
That is going to be fun to watch as an outside spectator.

They will have to be logically inconsistent to not change all the names. Definitely fun to watch. Already started with Jackson Square.

Didn't Mitch "The Bitch" say that they wouldn't be allowing the statues to go up on public display anywhere in the city of New Orleans?

Masked NOFD firefighters in flak jackets and army helmets know a thing or two about statue relocation.

The oldest museum in Louisiana is located right outside of Lee's circle and it is called the Civil War History Museum

assuming this would be on private property... where Mitch would have no say on its display

If they are going to rename it, they need to pick something related to New Orleans.. I'm ok with "Crime circle" or "Robbery square" or "harms way" "Danger Avenue" probably could think of some more...

Needs to be destroyed and replaced with the BLM museum.

There's no reason not to move the statue to Camp Beauregard in Pineville.
The fricking post is named after the fricking guy. Leaving it in the city is ASKING for trouble. Putting it on display, but inside the fence of a military installation is literally a no brainer. No fuss, no muss.

Mitch controls those statues
The city council wont stand up to him so he is essentially dictator of the city.

So he would have a say as to whether to sell it to this group or not correct?

he just wanted it off public property
I guess putting it by the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldiers is enough "historical context" for him since it appears these talks are pretty far along

That's odd, he's buried across the expressway in Metairie cemetery...

kinda ironic here... Greenwood Cemetery was founded by the Firefighter's Charitable & Benevolent Association... and the Association's Elk tomb is a key landmark
