Strange. Where did you hear that?

For the non-pilots, what exactly does this mean. I can't imagine it means he didn't start his takeoff until that far down the runway.

Also reports of white smoke on the rollout and weird sounding engine.
Def something wrong with plane

Rotate is when you start lift off basically
A plane that small should only take a couple thousand feet and that runway is like 8000’

He wasn't gaining enough speed fast enough. You can usually get a Bonanza airborne within 2000-2500 feet.
Runway 4R from start to reported rotation point is over 5000 feet down.

I wonder if he was trying to turn and lost the engine. The damage to the golf course looked like it was a steep dive.

Questions on life insurance applications:
Do you smoke?
Do you have diabetes?
Do you fly a small aircraft?

You have to complete an extra separate form if you are a private pilot. I think it is called an aviation supplement.

Someone at the golf course said he went "straight down". Probably spin/stalled as he tried to get turned around.

I went thru a broker that specializes in life insurance for pilots.
It's not much more expensive.

He was a great man. This is a big loss to the community. He leaves behind a wife, a son, two daughters, and some grand children. RIP Greg.

Per KLFY:
I've been gathering information throughout the day as I am a member there and have several people I know who were at the course or knew someone there sending me info.
Eyewitnesses say the plane was taking off, attempted to turn left, he lost the engine and plane stalled, and made a steep dive to the crash site. A friend that is a pilot said Greg was a very skilled and experienced pilot, and it would be shocking to him if anything but a mechanical issue/malfunction was the cause.
The video below was sent from someone at the course today. It's not graphic, just video of the plane burning after the crash.
Very sorry for his family and coworkers, such a tragic event. Rest in peace Greg.

UPDATE, 9/12/24, 3 p.m.: The crash took the life of Greg Manuel, of Manuel Builders in Lafayette, according to company officials. Company staff was informed of Manuel’s death this afternoon.
ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — One person is dead after a small plane crashed at a golf course in Lafayette, according to reports.
Initial reports said a single-engine plane crashed late Thursday morning at Oakbourne Country Club, which is adjacent to Lafayette Regional Airport. One confirmed occupant inside the aircraft was pronounced dead onsite.
The preliminary investigation is of a small, private aircraft which crashed upon takeoff at 11:35 a.m., officials said.
Investigators with the Lafayette Fire Department are on scene. Authorities said the investigation will be turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which confirmed that it is investigating a crash of a Hawker Beechcraft airplane near Lafayette.
An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive on scene tomorrow, and a preliminary report will be available within 30 days, officials said.
Witnesses to the accident or those who have surveillance video or other information that could be relevant to the investigation are asked to contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.
KLFY has a news crew on the way, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
