Per AP wire just now
quote:
Pope Francis died Monday morning, Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo, announced.“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church," Farrell said in the announcement.

Wasn’t he blessing Easter crowds yesterday? That’s all I see on BBC news right now.
ETA it’s on CNN now. RIP

I mean, we had three popes in the span of three months 46 years ago.

I won't celebrate his passing like some will*, nor will I celebrate his reign, but can we all agree?
No more Jesuit Popes.
(*there's no way Benedict stepping down before death was on the up&up, but I doubt Francis was involved in anyway other than being the chosen successor.)

I think he’s been dead & they were waiting til Easter was over to announce it.
Cue the black smoke.

Saw where he gave his Easter address yesterday morning and he appeared to be fine?

Agree no more jesuits.
The church needs to steer back to its roots. More traditional Latin in mass, more traditional views.

A conservative Italian or African pope may be the way to go.

Well he was alive yesterday because he met with Vance.

Weird. I just watched Conclave last night. Forget the ending, the process is fascinating. When will the Cardinals be sequestered?

We are in Passau, Germany.
The church bells have been ringing and we were in the beautiful Baroque cathedral for the last few minutes of a mass.
We thought it was a regular Easter Monday.
We didn’t find out until we walked out that the Pope had died.
We attended his Easter mass at the Vatican about 9 years ago.

We live next to a large church. Noticed the bells ringing at an unusual time this morning and didn’t put it together at the time. Like you I thought it was to do with Easter.
