A friend of mine bought the 3500w inverter/genset. He ran his RV 5 days on it without an issue. It was really quiet and a fraction of the price of Honda eu series generators.

Predator is actually a good generator. I bought one a few years back and it runs like a champ.

FWIW, it has 1,721 reviews and 4.7 stars. I read some really good reviews on some other sites too. For the price, load, and low dB factor it seems like a good deal.

Thanks. Y’all confirmed my thoughts.

Here’s the situation —-

I recently paid $750 for a CAT 6,500 watt from Lowe’s. Just got back from HF and saw they had a Predator 9,000 watt for less than I paid. I was starting to get buyers remorse but figured I could count on the OT for some honest opinions on the Predator.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Harbor Freight. But this
quote:

In case of an emergency, I don’t want to be depending on anything from harbor freight

is the truest statement

They are probably made by the same slave house in China as the name brands. Seriously, the Preds are worth it.

I have the 2k inverter generator. Have had it for a while for tailgating. I put in an NGK spark plug right off the bat and use fuel treatment on every fill up. Works like a charm and sips gas.

I have a mid-sized Predator generator. It's been great. Starts easily, is relatively quiet and vibration-free, and runs 16 hours on a tank at half load.

Absolutely no complaints, so consider my experience to line up with the OB Board on this one.

I am told my generator tech (in my industry, we have those) that the cheaper brand generators like Predator are good IF YOU ARE REALLY AGGRESSIVE in keeping them free of old fuel, and are really tight with their maintenance. The high-dollar Hondas are not as stringent about old gasoline, but that fuel left in the lower brands will end their lives quickly.

I bought one of the Harbor Freight tool box systems, and got $150 in store credit. I put that toward a 4375 Predator, and it has run well for 2 years. I stay on top of the maintenance which I am sure helps.

And I'll add that if you are considering a Snap On Tool box, you should check out the Harbor Freight systems. They are a quarter of the cost, and very close in quality. One of my uncles is a snap on dealer, and he told me to buy the US General stuff instead of the Snap On.

HF has some gems and a lot of crap, their inverter generators have been pretty much anointed as gems. While I am 10 times more likely to buy Festool, Wera, Knipex, NWS etc tools I have learned HF can be a boon if you are careful. I bought a 3" trash pump to blow out my boat slip 10 years ago, it now gets used maybe 30 hours a year between my neighbor and myself and it is still going strong with proper maintenance and storage. I paid almost as much for high-quality hoses as I did for the pump. If it dies next week I would buy another one.

If I needed a portable generator I would buy a Predator without any thought based on what I have read.

Their pro line of tool boxes are awesome. I have one.

Buy a predator generator. Change the plug out when you get it with an NGK and run it till the wheels fall off.

Only issue is check the old as it uses a little. Keep the oil checked and that little bastard will run.

Most people in this thread are talking out their asses about something they know nothing about. The Predator inverter generators have tons of good reviews and very few bad ones. There are also tons of good videos on youtube about them.

It is just the old perception of HF quality. I always had the same idea but time spend on the Garage Journal and other tool oriented forums has changed my toon but they still require you to research a specific item if you plan to use it for more than a one-off purpose.

Don't know about the generators but I can vouch for the predator engines. I bought one to replace a blown engine in my rear tine tiller. It's held up great.

In this case OB, because they're the ones buying the HF generators. I've bought a lot from HF including their bigger lathes and milling machines. They have a great warranties and I haven't had any major issues.

ETA: I bought one of their generators years ago and never had a problem with it. I used it in my barn all the time and sold it to a friend that still uses it for his camper.

The particular model you are looking at has had a larger fuel tank added and will run 13 hours at a 50% load. I did not see the specs, but am guessing it was about 2 hours per gallon.

Most of the reviews on it are positive. One thing you should find out is if servicing is readily available. I have an old genny that has to have the brushes changed every 50 hours of run time. It is a 20 minute job and I do it myself.

Yeah, I have one too and it runs just fine. If you don't want to drop 2K on a Honda this thing will do you right.
