Pro-Wrestlibg and MMA fans..got a question about Kurt Angle.

After his olympic win in 1996, If Kurt Angle had focused on MMA (particularly striking and stand up defensive) instead of beating his body and health up with that grueling demand that Pro wrestling had, went into the UFC in the late 90s or early 2000s, lets say he fought in light heavyweight and heavyweight..
Now, along with a solid stand up game to add with his outstanding amateur wrestling abilities..Would he have manhandled those guys from that era that are now considered legends? Guys like Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, etc. Think he would have beat them in legit fights?
Stoned question of the day..

I’m not sure it’s easy to say if he would have dominated or not. But as touted as his career is, it may actually be underrated. The stuff he accomplished is insane in itself, but then considering the shape his body was in at times, it makes it more impressive.

He was supposed to be a contender on TUF when it first started and was training, but when he went for his physical, they wouldn't clear him. Neck was too fricked up. He did pin Brock for what it's worth and Brock outweighed him by about 30 lbs at that time. Brock was the Heavyweight champ, so he would have held his own.

Good question.
Honestly, IDK. With the condition of his neck it's hard to say.
His pro wrestling career speaks for itself, though.

Someone who won a gold medal with a broken freaking neck could have roughed some guys up in the Octagon if he trained to do so and was at 100%.

I live in the Pittsburgh area and see him on occasion!

Look up his match with Daniel Puder. It turned into a shoot match and was the closest he came to the MMA world.

He easily would have been the best wrestler probably ever in UFC history but that doesn’t always translate.

The 2000, 04, 08, 12, 16, 21, and 2024 medalists in his division haven't done shite in mma.

You can't really say. You never know how he could take a real punch and a real beating. His wrestling was world class, and that would have been a problem for some guys.
I think he could have helped to speed up the transition that MMA had from the early days of UFC to legitimate mixed martial arts competition because his skillset would have forced others to improve or forced UFC to find better competition.
ETA: Of course, there are legit wrestlers like Dan Severn and Don Frye who competed in those early days with pretty good success. Angle's wrestling would have been better than theirs, but those were two bad dudes.

It would 100% be about how much effort he put into training striking.
His wrestling back ground and strength would give him a huge advantage but just like any other wrestler that has been in MMA, it’s all about whether or not they do well at striking.
Look at Brock Lesnar. Dude was a freak of nature. Just wasn’t a good striker.

Mark coleman always used to say an elite wrestler will win more than lose. Obviously depends on how heavy his hands are/ how well he can take a punch…also assuming his neck holds up

Kurt Angle would’ve dominated MMA and the UFC had he chosen to go that route.
Oh, it’s true! It’s true!

Nobody can know for sure, but back then fighters had a much harder time stopping take downs. I imagine that if Kurt was able to just cover up a little and get to a clinch, whoever he was fighting would be royally fricked.
I think the floor for him would be Mark Kerr and the ceiling would be Louisiana's own Daniel Cormier.
ETA; I also think he would have been a massive superstar in MMA because of how he is in front of a camera.
