There are fringe weirdos in every group. Jeep people have normalized their weirdos.

A jeep is a jeep is a jeep. Its so iconic and ingrained in society that we aren't even referring to it by its actual model name, its just a jeep. Like a coke is a coke, whether you get zero, regular, diet, etc.

virtually the only thing that is even remotely similar between a jeep now and a jeep then is the grill/lights, and even that is a stretch. you can keep on with your fantasy that a $100k 2024 loaded out Rubicon is first cousins with the vehicle that carried Patton across France, but the fact is that it is much closer to your wife's Yukon parked at Rouse's.

The problem is that they took what was a bare bones off-road vehicle with a pretty low entry price, added a million creature comforts, tripled the price, and completely changed the dynamic of the entire Jeep driver culture.

This!!
In 1986 I bought a '75 CJ-5 for $800. I drove it all of high school.
304, T-3 transmission, Dana rear, Spicer front, 35" super swamper TSL's, manifolds coming out forward of rear tires, no top, no doors, and a Rockford fosgate system. It never got washed and was covered in mud unless it rained. I could pop wheelies in the damn thing. It was a panty dropper back in the day. All girls like Jeeps.
Jeeps were known to break but easy as hell to fix for anyone with half a brain. I remember changing the transfer case out in the school parking lot after school one day.
You can't work on shite anymore.

the passionate hatred that Jeep bros have for Broncos and Bronco drivers demonstrates the true nature of the granfalloon.

like i said, i have been a Jeep guy since the later years of the Clinton administration, and i'll be the first to say that i fricking love the new Broncos. i would drive one of those in a heartbeat over a new Jeep.

Let's not try and figure out the Jeep people. It's a really weird cult.

I actually agree with this and thats not what I'm claiming

Patton could get warped to the future, see a jeep, and would guess that its the future version of a jeep.

Would someone from the past say the same about the new Bronco, if you hid the logos? Maybe. But I'm not as sure as I am with the jeep example.

lol i'm actually about to put a new transfer case in my YJ in my garage next weekend. that's the beauty of the old Jeeps - you can basically do anythign with youtube, a couple buddies, and a basic set of tools

no

Its a friend's vehicle. He likes it, hasn't wrecked yet though. Hope he doesn't, being an empty beer can on wheels and all. But its a sharp empty beer can on wheels.

I'm not even hating on Jeeps outside of normal tribal ribbing, but yeah, the new Broncos are way ahead of the new Jeeps.

"Patton would recognize the new Jeeps" isn't the bomb this dude thinks it is. We've rented a few Jeeps while we've been traveling if we can't find a Bronco instead. It's like they took it as a personal challenge to not improve anything about them.

So you've taken the time to research how bad the new Bronco might be in an accident, but not the new Jeep? I think I see the problem...

I have never considered buying the new Jeep, so no

Crash tests aren't really my passion.

hahaha hell yeah, i still have the Haynes for my YJ in the garage. i never really use it anymore obviously with google and youtube, but i refuse to let it go. it's covered in greasy fingerprints from twenty five years worth of projects and maintenance. might actually relocate it to the inside bookcase just for the nostalgic value.

You seem to care about them when it comes to the new Bronco specifically.
