What’s wrong with Central?
nothing...i took central city to be central city the neighborhood in NOLA. Never heard Central referred to central city.
if he meant central than sure, not a bad place at all.
grand isle and bossier wouldnt exactly be great spots to raise a family though. Bossier prolly better than grand isle.

If I’m moving back to the north shore, I’m moving back to Covington, Abita Springs, or Folsom. Preferably not in city limits if any of them.

Ruston is in the top 5, no debate
North Ruston or Choudrant would be my 1st choice.
I will probably retire in that area, my sister and I have 34 acres close to Choudrant.

Youngsville and Broussard should be on there.
Suburbs give you country vibes, nice real estate for a solid price compared to other parts of the state, OK schools, close proximity to Lafayette, great food, good kid recreation opportunities.
I don't understand the allure of Youngsville or Broussard, there are plenty of nice and safe neighborhoods in Lafayette proper.

Yeah I hate driving out there

I’m shocked no one has mentioned St. Francisville yet

I lived in Mandeville for a couple years and dated a girl who grew up in Beau Chene . Mandeville is a cultureless stretch of highway containing cookie cutter gated communities, no downtown, and has nothing to do. After hearing people praise it, I was shocked by how undeveloped it is. In my experience, the young people being raised in Mandeville mostly seem to resent it
If you like Mandeville, i encourage you to visit other suburbs in LA and other states to broaden your opinion. You will likely find that Mandeville is bottom tier in the grand scheme of things. It's literally just a long, rural highway with ugly, pretentious looking neighborhoods that try to signal WAY more wealth than they actually have. I found it sad.
so let me ask you a question(and granted i have only visited mandeville a couple times) but which of these would not be inviting to married families
1) low crime
2) decent public school choices and good private school choices
3) generally a well off area compared to other areas of south la
4) close enough to nola for employment or entertainment
5) plenty of employment opportunities on north shore
6) area is ~75% white/~12% black and has a low median age of 40 so lots of families
&) has strong recreation in the area
you cant really compare mandeville to suburbs from other states really. but compared to other suburbs of Nola, BR etc it compares favorably. Very similar to youngsville/broussard although i prefer lafayette area
just trying to figure out what your gripe is.
sure its not uptown nola in terms of entertainment but its also not that when it comes to crime, demographics, schools etc. Its also much cheaper place to live vs uptwon.

Anywhere south of I 10-12 will become increasingly untenable due to insurance cost.

1000% accurate. No one should move her....uhm I mean there. Mandeville sucks at every level. Go where it's not full!

The OTs continuous posting of St. Tammany being full and full of money always cracks me up.
It’s a middle class safe haven for retired people scared to step foot in New Orleans. Don’t worry if it’s full, another cookie cutter subdivision will pop up next week.

What about "Old Covington" Jahncke Road Area?
I don't know much about but my sister's family lives there, that neighborhood back by the river is badass. We stayed a week last Thanksgiving and liked it.
There's a bunch of older homes that have been redone.

Born and raised in Mandeville on W. Causeway and closing on a house in mid-May but you keep thinking that

they have rec baseball, basketball and football in the area. dunno about in mandeville proper
and all suburbs are kind of overpriced if you are trying to live in a nice neighborhood, at least to some extent but
I 100% get this argument because you do have to drive for most of the really good economic opportunities. and traffic isnt the best over there.
as far as restaurants...i know i have eaten at a couple local places...is there not a lot of local establishments to go eat at?

i mean i get the overpriced thing with BR but BR has tons and tons of local places to go eat. i dunno what you are referring to when it comes to it being mainly chain restaurants. I would say Nola, BR, Lafayette and LC all have a big selection of local places for most types of food that are very good.
explain yourself
