Mandeville
Mandeville is getting fricking rough, man. You can hardly drive down the street without running over some cracked out drug head. Shootings are almost a daily occurrence. We’ve turned into a food desert. There’s nowhere to eat here, no grocery stores.

1) Metairie and it’s not close

Because the question was the best cities to retire or raise a family in.
You can choose mandeville, where you get overpriced real estate, bad traffic, a bunch of fake wealthy in credit card debt, and nothing to do with
Or you can choose a place like Ruston/Choudrant where you get squire creek, no traffic, and some of the best and hunting/fishing and boating in the state.

The people saying there's nothing to do on the Northshore haven't lived here, downtown Covington and Mandeville has plenty of things to keep you occupied and that's not even mentioning boating on the Tchefuncte or fishing on the lake. Again not for everyone, I get it, but when I want to go to New Orleans it's a 30 minute trip and if I want to go to LSU games it's a hour

You will likely find that Mandeville is bottom tier in the grand scheme of things. It's literally just a long, rural highway with ugly, pretentious looking neighborhoods that try to signal WAY more wealth than they actually have. I found it sad
There is a little pocket of Old Mandeville that is nicer and more charming than most all suburban environs in the state. Outside of that, it’s rather hellishly blah.
And the whole “top earners in the state” line is sort of hysterical if the guy was doing anything but trying to goof.

I’m pretty familiar with the restaurant scene in BR since my husband is a Waffle House chef that moonlights at Chili’s, tyvm
For example

It’s not a bad thing, but the image posters from the Northshore try to portray on here is comical to reality.

I would have Thibodaux in my top 5. Close proximity to fresh and salt water for fishing. Area has been growing and the town is quiet. Great golf course 15-20 minutes away.

well i mean mandeville is decent place to raise a family. and some people arent into hunting and fishing (just playing devils advocate)
i would prefer being in south Louisiana and closer to Florida beaches than being in ruston. I find ruston boring AF and not many economic opportunities imo.
both have pros and cons and i would say both in top 10 for places to raise a family in LA
but imo it would look something like this
lafayette area> BR suburbs>Nola suburbs>LC area>shreveport suburbs>houma/thib area>monroe area> Alex area

Hey Terd , I’d replace Springfield with Satsuma. Other than that your list is spot on.

not to mention short trip the gulf beaches in bama and florida pan handle.
im not saying its paradise on earth, just dont get the hate. especially when compared to place like ruston or metairie.

I would have Thibodaux in my top 5.
Of course, cops see the worst parts

i mean its a typical upper middle class mainly white suburb with low crime, decent schools, and property isnt as crazy as places in the city and its about 30 min from nola and hour from br.
i just feel its unfair to try and compare it to something like houston/DFW suburbs or Austin or Atlanta burbs. two totally different things and when you compare it to most places in LA...its understandable why most people are high on the area.

Being like two and half hours closer to your once a year vacation is an odd requirement

Agree totally with Metairie. Underrated and underappreciated

you sure? i cant find a list that has it even in top 10. not calling you a liar, simply asking for source

more then that and northshore is only 3 hours from orange beach area. I prefer 30a but being within 3 hours makes it realyl easy to run down on a long weekend as a get away. its not a once a year thing in that case. especially on a 4 day weekend. leave wednesday afternoon, come back sunday after lunch. much more doable that 6-8 hours.
