and ftr ruston area is a nice place to live but to act like lincoln parish is some booming metropolis and not a poor parish in the middle of no where is disingenuous
if you want to raise a family in the country, sure. to each their own, but stop trying to act like its highland or university park or its southlake carrol or the woodlands.

Absolutely no dog in the fight here, but it’s gotta be somewhere as far away from the coast as possible. Y'all's homeowners insurance premiums are ridiculous.

Ruston has a 5a highschool and a private school and a university with 10k students

There’s probably 30-40k people in the “Ruston” area (within 15 minutes of downtown Ruston) and that’s probably 100k if you go to 30 minutes out

Revised List for South Louisiana as of 2025: 1. Hammond 2. Folsom 3. Covington 4. Youngsville 5. Central
Youngsville is the only one of these that is actually in South Louisiana.

umm ruston is like 22k, the whole parish is under 50k.
and sure yea its considered in the monroe metro so of course there are 100k+ if you go 30 min out.
its roughly the size of sulphur
and yea ruston is considered middle of no where for many and pretty country.

The 10k college students generally do not count as part of the population and Jackson, Ouachita, and Union parish are all within 15-20 minutes of ruston.

In this state, that’s retarded. It’s generally got every amenity as every metro area in the state outside of Baton Rouge and New Orleans

that we can agree upon and look i think ruston is a fine place to raise a family but i dont think its better overall than say youngsville/broussard/north shore even south lake charles/moss bluff areas or even the BR burbs. Thats just my opinion on it but im also not a fan of north LA at all.
that was the point, you were making ruston area out to be a billion times better than the Northshore when all the facts point to something else.
certainly both are good places to raise a family but every metric would pretty much pointing to the northshore to being better in general for most people.

That site has Eden Isles as a city. Isn't it just a neighborhood in Slidell? Elmwood isn't a city either.

I don't understand the allure of Youngsville or Broussard, there are plenty of nice and safe neighborhoods in Lafayette proper.
Had to settle for a $500k home right where Lafayette/Youngsville/Broussard meet. Have a Youngsville mailing address but pay property taxes to Broussard. I like the location because I’m 2 min from Ambassador and 6 min from Verot/Camellia. Pretty easy access to Costco/Rouses/Pius/work and all my kids play sports in Youngsville.
I hate the new subdivisions that are whited out farm houses touching each other, but other than that, most of the future development is heading south toward Hwy 90.

I can’t. My home value has plummeted. I can’t afford to sell my house. I couldn’t even find someone to buy it if I tired. Properties are being abandoned here all the time. People just leave or they get killed and no one wants to take over the property. This place is rotting from the inside out.

Looking at Folsom on google maps, it doesn't look like much... That's a nice town?
Not hating, just looks like there's not much there.... which could be appealing in itself.. nice, quiet tiny town.

If you are going the public option I don't think anything is touching Southside in terms of quality of education and accessibility to preparedness for life after HS with the vocational opportunities that school offers beyond providing a pretty good college prep curriculum for students going that route. I talk to a lot of the families in that area, and cost per sq/ft and Southside are the top 2 reasons to move there vs a comparable spot in Lafayette proper.
I guess I live in a bubble, because no one that I hang out with is even considering sending their kids to public school. I guess that makes sense though, it's still not very convenient at all if you're working in Lafayette and living in Youngsville.

Well it's where I'm from and where I grew up so that's the appeal for me. But yeah I don't get the appeal for other people who are moving here now. Paying high prices to live in an overcrowded environment.
