Almost bought a house on Acacia, but it flooded in 2016 and that scared me off. Probably should've done it anyway. I live off of E Bayou currently.

that was the point, you were making ruston area out to be a billion times better than the Northshore when all the facts point to something else.
That’s indisputably true. The Lafayette area is the only midsized area in the state that can compete with Ruston

Thats just my opinion on it but im also not a fan of north LA at all.
You’ve never been

If you have money, Madeville sucks. If you have to live there to make decent money, I get it, but that wasn’t the question.

its ok to disagree on ruston. lafayette area is best in the state imo but i personally would put most of north LA pretty low but im also a person that if i moved there, i would prolly like it. its low crime and quite and i like that. I wouldnt move there but would be fine.
i personally like suburbs. i really like the burbs of houston, dallas, austin areas other than the traffic some and the housing cost in some spots.

Actually South bossier and north of bossier is pretty nice.

It can compete, there’s just less to do depending on what your hobbies are. If I could move to squire creek, buy a golf cart and a boat, I’d never be bored another day in my life. Golf, hunting, and fishing every day of the year and three and half hours from LSU and good off shore fishing. Doable whenever you want to do it.

i mean Lafayette has all that and closer. but its also a lot more hustle and bustle, more crime, etc so its 100% what your preferences are
it also depends alot on what you do for a living. For example...for me personally i can make double the average engineer if i live in LC or BR. Now i could easily switch back to project management and work the oil field both up there or in Lafayette but i wouldnt have the quality of life i do now. Example the medain mechanical engineer makes more in houston than NYC so alot of it depends on what your economic opportunities are and if you are willing to start over etc
i could easily pivot but im sure others wouldnt be able to .

Truthfully from my experience:
1) Madisonville
2) Mandeville
3) Ruston
4) Covington
5) West Monroe or maybe Youngsville
I think the northshore dominates because you get all of the amenities that make south Louisiana great and the ability to enjoy it but it's safe, with good public schools.
Ruston and West Monroe are awesome for families and retirement but are not "fun" by any means

quote:That's fair. I am typically active in different parts of the community, so I get to know people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds. I would say the majority of the people who have moved into those two areas during the most recent boom are doing so to get into either ARCA or Southside. Now that's not exclusive, I do know ones who have kids at ESA, Ascension, and STM that moved there for a slightly quieter life. That said though it's not uncommon for kids in Sabal Palms or La Triomphe to go to ARCA or Southside, I know of several.
I guess I live in a bubble, because no one that I hang out with is even considering sending their kids to public school
quote:Agreed, though I think WFH and flex scheduling helps with that. Also the commutes aren't bad once school lets out. The SAHM and Bus traffic adds a lot to that commute Aug-May.
it's still not very convenient at all if you're working in Lafayette and living in Youngsville.

Stonewall doesn't even have a grocery store, and it's a dry parish. Everything costs double what it's worth.

Best golf club in the state, some of the best lakes in state for both recreation and fishing, and best hunting in the state but sure

Haha. Tell me you’ve never lived in GI without telling me you’ve never lived in GI.
For a visit, it’s ok. But an hour trip to the nearest pharmacy, hospital or Walmart will damper all the charm after not too long
And what used to make GI great was the absence of the Instagram crowd if you know what I mean. The old school charm of the island is disappearing quickly because a lot of people that used to turn their nose up at GI are starting (or have started) to arrive in droves.
Don’t get me wrong there have always been people with big bucks that have visited Grand Isle.
Just seems the new “big bucks” people don’t carry that low key wealth vibe. Used to be a place to escape the wealth pissing matches

The fishing and hunting is hard to beat as a combo but honesty I wouldn't say it's the best fishing area. Eastern side of the state has the best fresh water fishing almost completely because of Toledo bend and the access to the east Texas lakes like Sam Rayburn. Then obviously a ton of dudes inshore and offshore and areas like Grand Isle exist.
But access to areas like Darbonne and Caney do make Ruston and West Monroe formidable for sure.
Hunting is close. The duck snd deer combo make it very solid especially Union parish area but the biggest deer are along the delta and slightly further south.
Even then though you seem offended but I literally ranked them both top 5.

I’m not. I’ve played them all except MCC post Reno which I do need to get down there
