Doesnt really matter
They will all treat it the same
Steroids and immune modulating drugs
Find one that speaks the best english since there are a lot of foreign neurologists

Early treatment buys time.
I had a friend who had ms and bore a child and saw her graduate high school.
A neighbor didn't realize what was going on and sought treatment too late. She's got a year tops, her nephew says.

Dr. Sudheera P Rachamallu is my moms Dr
Mom has MS, the one that goes in & out of remission
Memory issues & gets easily tired especially in the summer
She’s been on the same medicine for a long time, just goes yearly for follow ups
Dr. Kenneth A Gaddis, MD
My Grandpas Dr (not for MS)
Mom called on call service Saturday before Christmas because of some issues he was having that we weren’t sure if they needed immediate attention
Nurse returned call, different Dr was on call but later that evening Dr. Gaddis called to follow up

Not sure who is the leading MS neurologist in BR since Steven Cavalier retired from the Neuromedical Center. Charlie Kaufman is an excellent neurologist and will refer you to the best for your situation if he is not the best fit for you. He is the best headache doctor in LA, I don't remember his experience with MS. John Olson at the Neuromedical Center is also an excellent neurologist. Maybe call one of those guys and ask for the best MS doc in BR?

You really would be better served seeing someone who specializes in MS as opposed to a general neuro. That's all they deal with all day every day and are typically more up to date on new data and treatment options. As mentioned earlier, April Erwin is a well respected specialists. Bridget Bagert in NO is also very good, although not nearly as aggressive. Believe it or not, there is an outstanding young neuro in Alexandria, Ariel Antezana, that deals with a lot of MS. With the current treatments, many - if not most, MS patients can lead a mostly normal life. Good luck!

April is great. She is as smart as they come and also cares for her patients. I’ve known her since before she was Dr Erwin. I would refer my family and friends to her on a heartbeat.

This. I have a cousin who's been able to forestall it for several years.
Also, MS is highly correlated with military service. If you are a veteran and diagnosed within 7 years of separation you can apply for a service related disability.

Make sure they avoid a lot of heat

First, I wanted to say sorry for the MS diagnosis. However, MS medicines have come a long ways over the last few years. The good news is that it sounds like it was caught early. The newer medicines can slow down the progression tremendously.
I don’t know Dr. April Erwin but I highly recommend someone like her that specializes in MS. Her resume is impressive.
Most general neurologist don’t see enough of MS to keep current on treatment options or don’t want the hassle of treating.
Good luck!

Assuming they had similar abilities, I'd trust a Dr who had a broader background and knew something about the world at large over one who'd had their nose in an anatomy book since they were 16 years old.

April Erwin is my wife's doctor. We are happy with her. She's also the only MS specialist in BR to our knowledge.
Take a look on facebook, there are several different groups that will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly in reference to the different drugs out there.
My wife takes ocrevus, which is a fairly new but highly successful drug.
Do your research and make sure you understand that all the drugs have side effects. Some worse than others.

I’m not dissing her, I’ve just never seen that particular undergrad combination before from someone in medicine.
