Except for the board and compressor, most repair parts on modern refrigerators are fairly inexpensive.
The board and the compressor are the two parts that fail often and most other parts are hard to get.

I’ve got a 70 year old Westinghouse. Had to replace the thermostat but everything else is original and it does the job.

We never talk about the environmental impact of cheap Chinese shite

Here ya go. Exact same thing sitting at your local HD. You won't buy it though. It won't break. There's nothing to break. $279...never buy another fridge ever. Hate yourself everyday for buying it. It will last longer than you.
According to all the 1 star reviews, it’s will not. That thing still has a pcb that will inevitably go out.

How are they supposed to continuously sell more and more if things don't break long before they should.
They have to stay silent about how easy it is to just replace the wonky parts.
I think they are now learning to make some of the parts difficult to reach.
My wife has a habit of slamming the dryer door. We’re on our 3rd dryer in our 30 year marriage. I finally decided to try replacing a part instead of buying a new dryer. Turned out I just needed to watch a YouTube video about replacing a dryer switch. I also replaced the start switch while I was at it since she’s aggressive with the start button too. It’s now like a brand new dryer.

This was a good prank call when we were kids
Ring Ring Ring "Hello"
"Is your refrigerator running ?"
"yes"
"well you better go catch it"

My grandpa had one in his shop that he bought in the early 60's that he stored beer and game meat in. It was still running in 2008 when my aunt inherited it.

I’ll bet that 70 year old uses enough energy in a couple of months to pay for a new one, I’ve never really had any problems with a fridge just crapping out on me, I’ve had quite a few

Planned obsolescence is the reason why things don't last.. they're not meant to.. to make money the consumer needs to consume and if shite lasts then you don't have a customer...

My grandparents purchased their fridge in the early 50s, couldn't tell you the exact year, but, it's now sitting in my parents' garage and humming along just fine, blasting cold as ever.
Since inheriting the antique fridge about 20 years ago, my parents have replaced their modern fridge inside the house at least twice that I know of.

A refrigerator running over 70 years is supposedly worse for than the environment that having to replace a newer style refrigerator every 10 years, if we're lucky enough to get that long out of it.
One of today's true head scratchers. Same for dishwasher, washers, dryers, ice makers, etc.

Think of all that crap piling up in landfills.

Now the bells and whistles on it, on the other hand, always seem to poop out.
I never understood the appeal of having a “smart” fridge.

That’s the truth…the only consumable that I can think of that lasts longer than it used to are automobiles. When I was young we were lucky to get 100,000 miles on a vehicle. My current truck just turned over 300,000e
Vehicles mechanically can go more miles but won’t last as long in years. You won’t see people restoring a 2015 sedan in 50 years. Body and interior and electrical components don’t last like classic cars.

I have a deep freeze that is 32 years old and still works great.
