I fully expect a good amount of roasting for this but…why is AC 73 comfortable but having the heater on 73 too hot??

AC on 73 is miserably hot.

Yeah, it is weird how something like 64 feels cold inside of a house but is comfortable outside. I guess it's being in the sun and all of that, but it's still weird.

Depends on what you get acclimated too. 73 AC feels cold right after the winter when we first start using it, but comfortable after 9 months at the temp.

Sunlight and radiant energy vs a heat sink.

64 is a great indoor temp. I'd kill for that year round if it didn't cost a fortune.

Thermostat set to 73 on heat isn't pumping out 73 degree air, it is pumping out 90 degree air until the overall ambient temp at the thermostat is 73. Having 90* air getting pumped out of your vents feels hotter than when it's 55 degree air trying to maintain 73 in cooling mode.

This! Wow…
Dude…thanks, this makes total sense

73 is 50 degrees hotter than the outside temp, where as in summer it's 20ish difference. No clue if that's the answer

That's not comfortable. too hot.

Both too hot in my opinion... but 73 is tolerable when it's 90+ out and just a waste of money when it's below freezing.

The air in Winter is drier.

No it isn’t. You’re probably just fat.

Good answer, and humidity of the air also plays a role - warmer air from the furnace or heat pump will always be drier (low relative humidity) whereas cooler conditioned air from the AC will have a much higher moisture content (higher relative humidity).

20 degrees cooler than outside
40 degrees hotter than outside
40 degrees hotter than outside

90 degree heat dries up the air, becomes uncomfortable

Heat is dryer than A/C
