He’s always quick to saying he isn’t and I don’t think he is gay. I think he’s just an eccentric New Orleans personality, which the city has a lot of. Not that it matters but he was married at one point and has a son that lives in out of state.

WWL hasn't had decent talent since Bob Ruby and Eric Tracy in the 70s, and Rob Aubert, Todd Bauer and Ed Clancy in the 80s.

ETA: Buddy Diliberto would call me a squirrel for leaving him out of the list, so I have to include him.

Scoot, God love him, has a fantastic radio voice. He's had it from the very beginning. He was really good at his job as a morning drive guy in the 1980s, he was funny, he was a rocker.

Now he's older and like so many people who start out doing one thing really well, especially if it's funny, they want to be respected for their minds. Problem is, they don't have bear-trap minds. Scoot takes the liberal side of things, all the while claiming himself moderate, just like Kaaaaaaaaaare, because to defend or understand the other side is too difficult and the folks they want to be friends with would destroy them.

I, too, miss the old WWL, and with David Tyree's death, this city got infinitely more intellectually impoverished. Buddy and Hap Glaudi were writers before they ever hit broadcast airwaves, they knew things and knew the language, which they couldn't always pronounce, but they knew how to make and defend points of view.

David Tyree could do that as well, plus he could find smart people to have on his show. Scoot wants to be edgy so badly, and you'd think in his mid 60s he'd finally grow up, and learn something after getting beat up living in the CBD.

So no, OP, I don't listen to this and I haven't in years.

I can't stomach Kaare, either, turned him off 12 years ago. I can tolerate Spud McConnell, but he has no radio gig anymore; you can catch him on his SpudCast on WLAE TV. We truly have no one articulate in this region who can moderate a fair-minded, or at least keep things civil, in broadcast media.

Scoot is good. He addresses all the issues and isn’t afraid of controversy. He does lean left although he tries to present the right view too.

Any caller to ANY radio show is an idiot. They always have the best view and ain’t Nothin gonna convince them otherwise. That’s radio shows. Every single one.

But scoot does a good job letting the callers talk, even if they are jack arses.

He says words into the mic, but they are his slanted words filled with half truths much of the time.

Scoot, Kaare, and Richard Condon should all be pushed off the air for being such dumbasses.

I'd clarify that with any talk radio program, moronic callers can drive the show into the gutter when you give too much air time to them. Seems a the same several dumbfricks call into his and Newell's show.

I like Scoot. Remember him when he was, I think, B97.

Scoot's schtick isn't partisan, rather "independent/contrarian".

Simply because callers are dumb fricks is no reason for the hosts to be.

Kaare is on 1280 weekday evenings.

Deke had a stroke. Beyond that I won't speculate. I did enjoy him at times, but it was often when he was unintentionally funny, a la Kaare Johnson but in his own way.
