When is this ever gonna be legal?? The state is missing out on millions a year in taxes. Besides we have video poker in Louisiana at GAS stations, and can drive through to get booze, but can't make a legal bet on a ball game. I know a few years ago we passed the first step. The OT knows all, so share the info please guys.

Will a lot of people just stay with their bookies?

They are pushing for next month so middle of September. I saw they are using some sort of emergency rules to get it passed quicker than the middle of the football season

The app's will make it so easy. However New York is taxing winnings at 50%. I'm sure Louisiana will be in that neighborhood.

Yeah, once you have multiple apps up and running, it's a different world. It's like the wild west in Michigan with about 10 books fighting for business.

correct, tax on revenue not personal winnings. I'm sure this is why its taking so long in LA. The politicians are figuring how to get their slice.

Absolutely. Bookies don't make you put up for the bet upfront.

But the websites don't hit you with a baseball bat if you're a day late.

This is the update from today’s Louisiana Gaming Control Board meeting

quote:

Louisiana's Gaming Control Board approved emergency rules Thursday to expedite the arrival of sports betting. New Chairman Ronnie Johns, a former state senator from Lake Charles, told USA Today Network he believes sports betting could go live sometime during the upcoming football season through the state's 20 riverboat and land-based casinos and racetracks. "This has been the No. 1 question asked of me: When is sports betting coming?" Johns said. "We are behind our neighbor in Mississippi, but we're going to try to catch up quickly." Johns, a Republican who was appointed by Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards in July, previously predicted the arrival of sports betting might be as late as early 2022. "I don't think any of us had an inkling when we left (the Legislative Session in June) that the emergency rules could be put in place this fast," said Johns, who praised the state police and attorney general for expediting the rule making. Voters in 55 of 64 parishes approved legalizing sports betting in their communities last fall, but lawmakers had to set up the framework to regulate and tax sports wagers before it could be implemented, which they did during the Legislative Session. Components will include Las Vegas style sports books at the state's casinos and racetracks, mobile Internet betting through smartphones and other devices and retail wagering kiosks at restaurants and bars. Twenty sports book licenses are available for existing casinos and racetracks. Each of those licenses will include two "skins," which will be used to contract with mobile application providers. Retail betting kiosks at restaurants and bars will likely lag the casino and racetrack action. Sports betting will still be prohibited in Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, LaSalle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn, the parishes where voters rejected the gaming expansion. Technology called geofencing will prevent residents in those parishes from accessing mobile sports betting applications. The emergency rules are in place for 180 days. Representatives from the attorney general's office said they planned to promulgate permanent rules before the 180 days expire.

I guess it depends on the lines they can get.. But both DraftKings and Barstool is partnered with a casino in Louisiana so you can just use their app to bet and get the current line without having to call your bookie and asking what he has on such and such game..

Many... Maybe most bookies use a website that you can use to place your bets, but I don't trust those because its being run from some island somewhere and at any time it could be shut down.

I didn’t realize so many people were addicted to gambling. Keep buying those twenty five lotto tickets each week. Someone is going to win right ?
