Swimming across the Mississippi River in south Louisiana

Did anyone’s grandpa ever do this? The river is at 4.6 feet at Baton Rouge and getting lower. This is the best shot and easiest chance anyone is ever going to have at doing it. Wear a go pro if you do it.

Plenty of places you could easily do it right now. Hell, you only need to swim about a 1000 feet by the Dow dock right now

My Dad did near Ferriday when he was a teen. He said he learned not to try that again. But he made it.

I did it once and when I got to the other side I got shot and they took my GoPro

No.
My dad used to tell me about when he lived in Minnesota and could walk from one side of the river to the other side, but I have never heard anyone say they swim across the Miss River in Louisiana.
You do it and let us know how it goes.

I'm holding out for my chance to walk across.

I'm looking at anchored tanker just south of the new bridge. Have to imagine water is deeper than 4.6 feet, but it is down substantially!

My dad did this back when he was a teenager in the 60’s in Donaldsonville. Grabbed a big log with some friends and went for it. Thank God I only inherited half of his dumbass ideas.

If it was even remotely doable, people would have tried it by now, people don't even get in kayaks in that river
Go ride any of the ferries that cross the river and I can assure you no one in their right mind would even consider it

Not sure if serious

I've been thinking about it. I'm a strong swimmer but I get the eeby jeebies looking at that water.

Hard to tell if this is serious considering the docked tanker post above

My father and his cronies used to do it all the time growing up in Algiers. Only a few could make it across, but they'd swim in the river all the time.

Never swam across it but floated it one time. See clip below
