The appeal of non denominational churches

I don’t understand the rationale behind non denominational churches. Everyone is quick to bash the Catholic Church (believe me they deserve it most times) but it is still the most viable option out there. I don’t get going to church in a strip mall or the opposite, a billion square foot mega church. I know a lot of people who attend these churches and while most are really good people, they usually use the excuse that these churches are more loose with their teachings and more flexible than other organized religions. To me this defeats the purpose of religion. Also, these churches are certainly not scandal free, seems they are all flawed just as must as the Catholic Church.

for the most part, people in ND churches love Jesus.
for the most part, people in Catholic churches are doing a chore and sleeping during the homily.

Ah, a good “my religion is better than yours” thread. Where the enlightened and redeemed throw stones at others for worshipping different

the pastor of the mega non-denom that my wife and daughter attend has a personal net worth of $110 million, he had to step down as pastor last year because an inappropriate sexual relationship he had with a 12 year old a few years back surfaced, the "affair" occurred when he was a newlywed and he and his new bride had been taken in to live with another pastor and his family, the 12 year old was the daughter of the pastor that was letting them live in their home

It's whatever makes you feel good about yourself at the end of the day. Many (not all) ND church services strike me as more of a 'pep rally' for Jesus. That's not the spiritual experience that I prefer, but if your cup is full after a couple hours of praise/worship, then have at it.

Non denom are pretty much Baptist. They rename or drop the word Baptist because some people have a bad stigma with it. Usually more casual too.

Brothers and sisters! Come on out to our non-denominational church this Sunday. We’ve got the absolute best coffee and jam band. It’s the place to be seen locally!
Now brother Stephen, hit sick beat on that new Ludwig drum kit we bought last week and lead us in song!

My biggest concern with ND churches is you can get a power hungry pastor with no oversight. Everyone needs to be accountable and I don’t see hand picked elders doing that. Prefer someone outside the building doing it.

Are Baptists, Methodists, etc., a part of your definition of non denominational or not? I thought I understood you to mean non denominational at first, but it seems like you're just "any Christian that isn't Catholic."

Who cares what other people believe and where they do it? As long as they are good people and follow societal norms and rules.
Religion is man made anyway

Especially the sleazebag leader driving around in a Bentley.
My priest rolling around in a 20 year old corolla is just in it for the grift.

I compare many Catholic Church services to an angry person lecturing about "white guilt".
Catholic Church is mainly depressing and guilt based nowadays.
So yeah If I'm on a journey of spiritual enlightenment then I'd prefer a place to rejoice > being told how bad of a person I am in a depressing setting.

If you ask me there should be a certain reverence and seriousness around church/worship that is present in Catholic, Orthodox, and old school Protestant buildings and ceremonies that just isn’t there with non-denoms/megachurches. But people can do what they want, just not my cup of tea.

Every time I hear people arguing over which denomination is most correct and crapping on the others, I'm just reminded of the disciples arguing in Luke over who is the greatest.
As long as we agree on the essentials, the core doctrine that Christ was and is the Messiah and we trust in him alone for our salvation, I really don't care if you like traditional music or contemporary music better. All this bickering and splitting over things that aren't all that consequential is ridiculous and just breeds elitism and clinging to ritual when Christ himself tore people's rituals a new one and said they do not save you.

I think this is the attitude to have. Just because something isn't your cup of tea doesn't make it inherently bad or heretical. As long as the gospel in it's accurate form is being preached, let people attend the church they want to.
