Link to the money grab...
From physicians to florist, from barbers to garbage men.

I'm not saying these occupations shouldn't have to have licenses, I just think that is a lot of different types of license. Is it like this and other states? Genuinely asking....

Also I know bartenders and retail clerks have to buy a $30 bar card in order to sell alcohol, so what other money grabs does Louisiana have in place?

I do. Why should you need a license to cut hair, make floral arrangements, or any other job that doesn’t require you to manipulate energy or money? I get electricians, plumbers, HVAC, and drivers.

But a lot you shouldn’t need them.

That link is infuriating

State medical board has some teeth and actually regulates the licensees and disseminates important information.

Of all the fees I pay, I mind theirs the least/very little.

Ready for this? HVAC doesn’t require a license in Louisiana. All I’m required to have is a Freon handling certification. Kinda makes you day hmmmmmm now doesn’t it.

I was completely unaware of that and it does make you wonder what the frick is the point of licensing if something as possibly dangerous and technical as HVAC doesn’t require one but a florist does.

Not saying HVAC should, just agreeing with you.

you know what grinds my gears.....

try to get a teenager a drivers license now. it requires three different steps, each step costs $$, to eventually get the kid a drivers license. 100% money grab.

State medical board

But it’s not just this. There’s the

State medical board fee (one for each state you practice in)

DEA registration fee (again, one for each state you practice in)

Board certification fee (multiple of you have more than one board certification).

Then there’s the Louisiana CDS license (whatever the hell that is).

I don’t know what any of the boards do except take my money. frick ‘em all.

And now you see why Louisiana consistently ranks as a business unfriendly state.

I have a 17 and 16 year old, I know all to well about that. Dont even mention how much the insurance goes up if you add them to your policy.

I’m all for licensing, but for many professions it should come from a particular professional organization, like the Association of Professional Florists or whatever, not necessarily the state. Though, the state may be best to handle it there is a health or safety concern.

The Social worker board is full of criminals. They make up BS reasons to deny you your license but give you the option to pay penalties to acquire it, which is in the hundreds after paying hundreds to take your certification test.

You have to have a license to exercise a constitutional RIGHT! CC licenses shouldve been tossed last year but repubs and JBE love them some big gubmint and taxing of the mere peasants to fund their cronyism

Any contractor doing a job of 50K or greater needs a state license.
Parishes and cities also require licenses. Without that you can’t get a permit to do the work in that parish or city.

Hygiene issues for the most part I would guess

Interior designer and florist seem to be the 2 that jump out as the most unnecessary

The industry employs plenty of non licensed electricians...licenses are needed for pulling permits and such
