Tinted car windows...are they legal?

Ive never had tinted windows on my car so im pretty uninformed on all this. Im researching it and realizing legally i can only very very slightly tint windows in louisiana. The thing is, everywhere i go i constantly see cars with darker windows than what is legal. What gives? Do car inspection shops not enforce it?
Im definitely not looking for super dark, just something in between.

The last two times I got break tags, the guy looked at my license, insurance, and registration, and slapped it on the windshield without inspecting anything. I don’t have super dark tinted windows, but I can see how they get through inspection.

Cars
20 on the front
35 on rear passenger doors
Dark as you want rear.
Trucks/suv
20 front.
Dark as you want on all other windows. (Tell me the sense that makes)
Be careful as if you have any factory tint (ilusually in the glass) although light, it will bring down your light transmission.
Or you can say eff it and go limo all the way and stick it to the man.

What's a brake tag?

99% of the police don't card unless you get pulled over for another reason

If this happened in BR you need to advertise this place.
Last time the place failed for a back up light not working...

Tell a reputable shop you want the darkest legal tint. Do ceramic and don't think twice. It lasts for the life of your car (which isn't very long for new cars nowadays) and works better than other tint material.
Louisiana State Police website also has the light emission percentages.

It’s tricky. Tinted windows don’t mean nothin, they know who’s inside.

I had deep tinted glass in the late 90’s and was stopped a couple times.
Today tint has become more mainstream and is not only for the drug dealers of this world. Many Middle class families now have deep tinted SUV’s. I know legally successful people who have illegal tint. Police don’t care like they did 25 years ago.
My SUVs have 70% on the front windshield. 20 percent front windows, 20% sunroof, 5% everywhere else. It makes your driving experience more comfortable. Plus when I go to New Orleans I have privacy.
Get ceramic.
You will eventually find someone who will give you a brake tag. Tipping increases your chances. I would get a two year tag the day before you tint.
Whenever you get pulled over, roll all windows down before the cop approaches your car. He will appreciate your thoughtfulness on the situation and lowers their anxiety level. I do this and never have problems.
The laws need to be changed to be less stringent.

3m crystalline and be sure they use what you say. Cheap tint turns purple. It's better than ceramic. I'd go 5% and 20% front row

I have never understood the why you can’t have tint as dark as you want. Is it driving safely? Well, police can have their windows dark as shite, so are they a danger to others? Is it because people/police can’t easily see in others’ vehicles? Isn’t that a privacy issue?

Yeah, the public answer is they want to be able to see what you’re doing when they walk up on you, to make it less likely they are walking into an ambush. Who knows what the real reason is. And I don’t know how they are allowed to have pitch black tint, you can’t even see if there is anyone in their car.

You don't even need inspection stickers any more. Cops don't care unless you get pulled over for something else...
Not since the great glue failure of 2020.
