I suppose it is a matter of perspective, but I actually really love the Garden District/Government Street area. I lived there when I went to grad school at LSU and I personally felt like I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Baton Rouge.

But yeah...I suppose there were some crimes happening around there. It isn't soccer mom tested and approved like "St. George."

Stay clear of any street with the name of a president or a state. 'State St.' is alright though.

How can I begin to count the ways?
It may be easier to draw a map, but some good rules of thumb:
Avoid anything north of Florida Blvd except in downtown (i.e. North of the I-10 Bridge, West of I-110).
Avoid Streets named after Indian Tribes
Avoid Streets named after U.S. Presidents
Avoid Streets named after States
If it's near GSRI or Gardere Ln, avoid it.
If it's near Staring Lane, it could be hit or miss.
Avoid College drive (only some parts are mildly dangerous, but the rest is a traffic clusterf*&k)
Avoid Valley Park (small neighborhood between Acadian and College that exists around I-10, Bawel and its side streets and behind the College Drive Wal-Mart).
Avoid St. Jean Apartments
Avoid Old South Baton Rouge (aka anything East of Nicholson, North of Roosevelt, south of I-10, and West of Park)
Avoid Tigerland

Trust me, there are plenty of "soccer moms" living between I-10 and Florida. Old Goodwood is gorgeous and filled with old money, Capital Heights is a hip neighborhood for young professionals, Sherwood is filled with well educated middle class Vietnamese and Hispanic families, the Garden District is easily the best, most convenient, and most beautiful neighborhood in the city.

Crime in those areas is minimal as long as you keep your car and house locked. It's not like Gardere and Mayfair aren't in St. George.

isn't 70806 like number 25 in the country for crime?

70805 is the one you're looking for, aka Murder Cap. 70806 has a lot of crime, because 1/3 of it is above Florida around Cortana, but 2/3 of it is very safe and below Florida. It contains a lot of wealthy and beautiful neighborhoods.

This is crazy to me. This was all college kids when I was at LSU and I couldn't imagine it being anything else.

It's still filled with college students, but there's Section 8 housing in the back. There's tons of property crime and more than a few murders over the past couple years. The thugs have taken to murdering college students stumbling back from the bars, while police are 100ft away issuing DUIs and MIPs.

Yep, the residents of one complex seem to be causing 75% of the property crime South of LSU and nearly 100% of the murders. I really hope some wealthy LSU alumni buy up all of the seedy, run down complexes in that area, bulldoze them, displace the hood, and build new stuff.

Seems like more college kids live in Brightside than Tigerland now. I realize they are right next to one another so idk if people draw a distinction.
