Just git a real tree for the first time in a few years. Someome said to add ground up aspirin to the water to preserve it.
Anybody got any idea how much to use? Or does it even work?

Yes, it works, use 3 aspirin pills and break off half of another one

I just piss in mine. The nutrients from the beam make the tree regrow its roots

Sugar and aspirin are both old wives tales.
Keep it watered and keep it away from heat. Make sure it has a fresh cut when you put it up.

I also drilled a couple shallow bores in the base to get more water, us cut off about a half inch at the base. YouTube said that's a winner. I just wanted to keep it from shedding as much as possible.

We did this with flowers as well. Just pun an aspirin in the vase with the water. Add water as it recedes. Seemed to work.

Go find the Mythbusters episode on this very topic.

We get a ~18' tree every year and have to get them before Thanksgiving because the pickings get slim on big trees once the hordes hit. So our trees are up for ~6 weeks and we never have any real issues but the trees are always fresh when we get them.
The key is NEVER let the water get below the cut, if you do it will seal over and the shedding will start prematurely. I usually top the water off twice a day.

For flowers, apple cider vinegar and sugar is the ticket.

Hit up the home/garden board. Those nerds know their shite.

when you add water, use warm not cold

Absolute truth. I also cut 1 inch off immediately before placing in stand and water. Got to keep the cut underwater for the entire time or sap seals the cut and tree dries quicker.

False... aspirin has salicylic acid, which is in fact known to be a beneficial plant hormone. In my area of farming people use it more in high doses, as a foliar, to cause female plants to hermaphrodite so they can be back crossed to themselves for s1 hybrids.
Sugar feeds beneficial bacteria... and also bad ones. I'd avoid this for that reason. Unless you add an aquarium pump to stave off anaerobic bacteria, shite will get ugly.
