Wiki Link Most Intense Hurricanes
Allen 1980 for wind speed
Wilma 2005 for pressure.
Patricia 2015 was pretty damn strong too but south of Mexico.

The strongest recorded hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico is Hurricane Katrina. It reached peak intensity with maximum sustained winds of 175 mph and a minimum central pressure of 902 mb.
However, the strongest by pressure was Hurricane Rita (also in 2005), which had a minimum central pressure of 895 mb

I thought it was Gilbert.

I feel like Katrina was stronger. I also feel it’s a dick measuring contest where SwLA always feels inferior because Katrina got more attention than Rita.

I remember this like it was yesterday. I was only 10, but very concerned. We had a couple of weak hurricanes before this but nothing on this magnitude. It was a monster and I quit caring about getting a couple days off of school after this one missed us in South La.

Wilma was still in Caribbean when at record strength I think

I’m telling y’all that Gilbert had the lowest pressure.

Yeah, I caught that after a bit.

You're right. My mistake. But wasn't Camille same winds of 175 but 900 on the pressure vs Katrina at 902?

Bawmilla in '35! It was a Cat 3.5...

Camille was like half the size of Katrina though
