What you travel ball coaches and parents think about sliding mitts?

I lean toward it being unnecessary. Especially some $85 hyped up sliding mitt with some crazy design that looks like basically an oven mitt these kids are running around with. When I grew up, we slid using our bare hands. A jammed finger every now and then made you a baseball player. What you OT baws have to say?
ETA- yes we’re being pressured to buy an Absolutely Ridiculous sliding mitt

Buy the mitt or forever mourn Brythyn not making it to the show.

My son plays travel baseball and I think it’s the stupidest thing at any level. Along with all the necklaces and stupid crap they have. We have sunglasses and regular black Franklin batting gloves and that’s it. No sleeves, or other stupid crap. We do just fine performance wise.

As someone who dislocated and popped back in the top knuckle of their pinky on a regular basis playing receiver in highschool, and whose pinky will sometimes still dislocate at the slightest provocation, I wouldn't begrudge a parent getting their kid a basic one

Nothing is unnecessary when a multi-million dollar signing bonus is on the line (in 10 years).

Looks like one of those pointy number one foam fingers minus the finger.

It’s a damn gimmick. Batting gloves I totally understand.

Gateway accessory to gayness

We used to just hold our batting gloves in our hands and slide in with our fists. It's not MLB, those 3 inches aren't going to matter.

They're a perfect reflection on the softness of our society.

Batting gloves or handful of dirt. Not a fan of the oven mitts.

I'm neither a travel ball parent, nor coach, but I think the sliding oven mitt deal at every level of baseball is just dumb and stupid looking.

Yes, it is certainly a sign of softness. But when the rest of the team has them, what is a person to do?

Not an oven mitt to be had in the whole damn lot. And they all look pissed that you'd even mention it.

I saw a Jr in high school break his hand this year so I don’t hate them but high school is the line. No 12 year old sliding into 2nd at the speed of molasses is endangering their junior college pitching career.
