Maybe I haven’t been paying attention, it just seems fairly recent, or a few years at least. What happened to just orange and black?

ETA: I like the colors

Go to any store it’s orange, purple and green lights. Or any other decorations.

Green for witches and purple for the Halloween night sky.

Probably when some people were on their way to a big Halloween party in New Orleans. They stopped along the way at a fabric store to make costumes. The store happened to have purple and green fabric in stock and the rest is history.

Green has been associated with witches since 1939. Purple harmonizes well with green.

They won't like my Halloween tradition of overenthusiastic public address system monologues.

Purple does seem to be pretty common nowadays for decorations and lights.

I think it has to do with witches. One of the growing tends the last couple years is the rise in popularity of Halloween parades called “Witches Ride” where mostly women dress up as witches and parade down the street in rides, bicycles, etc, throwing out candy. And for the most part they all wear combinations of black, purple, and green.

Well traditionally it’s black and orange, but for outdoor lights, you can’t have black lights, they are a shade of purple, so most outdoor decorations are orange and purple lights. It eventually trickled down and stuck as a secondary color. Green usually represents monsters, witches, frankenstein, anything of that nature. Also with LED’s, the colors are true and look good outside.
