I was given one by the company I work for and it’s been in a box in my movie room ever since.

I’ve always wanted an AP, but if I ever decide to get another watch, it’s going to be very tough to choose between that and the Classic Fusion
Get the Royal Oak and don't think twice about it. The difference is one is made by one of the Swiss Trinity of watch manufacturers and the other is well just a Hublot. The ONLY caveat is try on the AP RO because the bracelet is known to eat some people's hair, it doesn't bother me though.
Honestly for the price SS Patek Nautilus are going for (twice retail) more people should look at the AP RO which is a bargain in comparison.
The AP's tapisserie design on their dials is very cool and more interesting than the Patek Nautilus. BTW Royal Oak dials have always been subbed out to Stern Creations one of the most famed dial manufacturers of all time. The Stern family is who bought and has owned Patek Phillipe since 1932. Add to that the Royal Oak is the original porthole watch designed by Gerald Genta and you have a very special watch. Oh and the engraving on the rotor is much cooler than on the Pateks.

Or it says I was given a gift.

Yeah I have one as does my wife. They are great until you have to service them. Then just like everyone I know told me, they never work correctly again.
This should NEVER be the case. I am an amateur watchmaker and can take apart, clean, oil and reassemble a 3135 movement in a short day and have it running with 0 beat error, ~280 degrees of amplitude and a rate of -1 to +2 sec. If you ever want to have them serviced correctly let me know where you are located and I will get you a recommendation for an indy, you could also send them to Rolex but the prices are somewhat higher.
Any decent mechanical watch movement properly service should outlive you and your offsprings offspring.

Rolex says I have alot of money but know nothing about watches.
I have stainless date just and have owned it since 2003. Hate that damned watch. It costs on average $500 every 5 years to recondition it. (It just stops if you don't) It also never keeps accurate time.
DONT DO IT!

Seiko is my mako.
Funny you say that because the Mako is a very popular dive watch made by Orient which is owned by the umbrella Seiko Epson, it became a full subsidiary in 2017.

I feel so poor reading this. I got a $900 Bulova Grammy edition earlier this month as an anniversary gift and am scared to wear it so I don't frick up the nicest thing I own, lol.
Being poor means I don't mind too much if the watch I'm wearing gets dinged up. Today I bought myself a Citizen Eco-Drive Blue Angels World Chronograph for the exorbitant sum of $300.

Accessories are for women[quote]
[quote]They really are. Vanity items like expensive watches are sorta un-masculine.
Interesting take on it, in modern times they are considered the last acceptable form of jewelry save a limited number of college rings mainly service academies.
That said the wristwatch was historically a woman's watch and men carried pocket watches. The first men's wristwatches were made by Girard-Perregaux in the 1880s for the German Navy. The next big move into men's wristwatches after the military was in 1904 when Cartier made what is now known as the Santos for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont.
Cartier is one of the few jewelry houses that has an actual history of making fine watches. Chopard does as well to a lesser extent and Tiffany generally double stamped Rolex and Patek watches and had Swatch Group build watches for them. They famously screwed up their end of the Swatch contract and had to pay Swatch group a half a fricking million dollars.

Rolex is very new money.
I’ll get downvoted, but I agree completely.
I know three people that have owned Rolex’s. First two where the first “splash” purchases made when they got their new money. Also was one of the first things to go back when the new money ran out.
Last one has the watch James Bond wore in Dr No which I guess is a submariner. His grandfather was a huge Bond fan and it’s been handed down.

Turnagraph Datejust with a white dial.
The Turn-O-Graph is a really cool watch. Often referred to as the Thunderbird since the USAF Thunderbirds adopted it when new due to the rotating bezel. The bezel mechanics are what Rolex used to build the Submariner. The T-O-G was the first production watch to ever have a rotating bezel. The first Rolex to have a rotating bezel was the Zerograph prototype built in the late 30s. There are a few examples in the wild and the Zerograph is my Rolex grail.

BTW dials (not just Rolex) with Roman numerals on the top half of the dial and Arabic on the bottom are called California dials, the origin of the name is disputed but probably came from a prolific Rolex modifier in California who used a lot of this type of dial.

Seiko is my mako.
The Seasons collection by Seiko is a pretty cool set of watches.
I think they're beautiful. But as much as I'd like to get into watches, I just don't foresee myself spending $6300 on a watch.
At about half the price, I love the way the Cartier Ronde Solo looks. But despite posting on the OT, my disposable income isn't going to get tied up in timepieces for quite some time.

he Nautilus is about 30 years old but he picked it up for 11k
The older smaller Nautilus is an excellent deal. People just love the Jumbo now. It is crazy to think the SS 5711 was available for ~5k over list just 5-6 years ago, now 30K over list is considered market. Back then you could buy the Aquanaut and complicated Nautilus for list now they have skyrocketed too. I have been salivating over the new(ish) Aquanaut 5968 on orange rubber since it came out but while I pride myself in being able to get SS Pateks much cheaper than market none of my contacts has been able to offer one for under $82k which is over $40k over retail which I won't even consider.
