Why are Japanese car companies considered "foreign" by American southerners?

As a spin off from the thread of Ford moving truck production to Mexico because of the UAW.....
The Japanese (and lately Korean and German car companies) have invested far more into your local economies than the American big 3 car companies in recent history.
Yes, I'm aware that General Motors has made a lot of investments in manufacturing in Texas and Tennessee lately. But Ford and Chrysler are largely absent from the southern US. Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, VW, Honda, Kia, and Hyundai build cars closer to where most of you live and work. Even Tesla is going to start building trucks in Texas very soon.
So why does Ford, Dodge, Ram, or Jeep deserve your loyalty?
Toyota has been building excellent, reliable, and practical cars in the south for 30+ years now, including the cars that absolutely dominated their market segments:
In fact, Toyota has moved their North American HQ from California to Texas as of last year. Nissan has moved theirs to Nashville. VW's to Chattanooga. Mercedes Benz to Atlanta.
Do you really think you have more in common with the average UAW striker in Michigan or Ohio than you do with people on the assembly line at Nissan, Hyundai, VW, or Toyota plants in the southern US? Why do so many of you prefer products made by Ford anyways?
Kia's factory in Georgia:
Hyundai's factory in Alabama (Montgomery area)
Nissan's massive complex near Jackson:
Mercedes-Benz plant near Tuscaloosa:
If you must buy a foreign-built vehicle, I can see preferring a Mexican, Japanese, Korean, German, British, or Canadian built vehicle over a Chinese one. But why consider Michigan, Illinois, or Ohio your home turf if you live and work in the deep south?

The reason these are predominant in the south is $, not loyalty.

I will buy a "foreign" car made in the U.S. instead of an American car made in Mexico. frick Ford.

Because they build what Americans want

There's a reason domestic full size trucks kick the shite out of the imports both in sales and head to head comparisons.

Where it’s made is way down the list of things I care about when buying a vehicle

I love Toyotas and that's all I drive. Although they have US operations they are still from Japan. No Japan, no Toyota.

That's the only reason.

Did you know a company that was established in Japan do not have to follow discrimination laws?
They can hire all Japanese men if they want to.

You didn’t include a picture of the Toyota plant in Blue Mountain, MS.

The Ford Explorer is wildly popular in the Chicago region because it's made on the south side. They are widely accepted as one of the most unreliable, defect-prone cars made now. From what I've read, the new F-150 might actually be even worse.

Because the CEO and BoD sits in another country?
I mean I understand there's a lot of investment and they build a ton of stuff down here, but its still a foreign company, similar to Airbus they'll always been European even though they build planes in Mobile.

I think it's being expanded to build a sports car with Mazda. Blue Springs, MS near Tupelo right? They were talking about that when I lived in Memphis. They build Corollas there if I'm not mistaken. Maybe the Prius too.
I wish Louisiana would pick up one of these foreign car companies.

Tundras are superior in every facet except they don't have heated radio buttons.
