Why do cops leave their cars running?

Even if they're on lunch and gone into someplace to eat so going to be a while they'll leave the vehicle running, why? It seems so wasteful

Keeps the electronics running.

LucasP would have had a clever response.
RIP in peace LucasP

because we pay for their fuel
Posted on 8/8/24 at 12:41 pm to DavidTheGnome
Because they don't pay for the gas

I think it has something to do with keeping the power on & interior cool for their computers / electronics

Pretty cool. They have been rolling it out in some big cities. It's you the taxpayer's car, so they leave it running. If you need it for a quick errand just grab it and bring it back. It's like a free ZipCar.

I don't turn my office A/C off when I leave for lunch

Because they don't pay for the gas. You and I do.

I’ll never forgive Gnome. RIP LucasP

Because those that drive them don’t have to foot the bill for fuel or maintenance.

This is it.
If they don't keep them idle while they're doing whatever cop thing they're doing. Because of the electronics and shite that's piled in that car, the batteries will go dead immediately.

This is the reason. Many departments have Mobile data terminals in their cars now. They run off invertors that need to stay power up and don’t want them getting to hot.

That actually makes sense

Those $250.00+ rolling stop violation tickets ensure the AC is on during the summer and doesn't break the yearly budget.

So, when they are off duty how are the electronics ok while the car is off?
Posted on 8/8/24 at 1:21 pm to DavidTheGnome
Keeps the car cool cause the AC stays on and when you have that much electronics running in the vehicle, it’s kind of a must.
I would get aggravated having to turn my computer on again and restart my programs all over again every time i just went to eat lunch
