Why do Europeans prefer those godawful washer-dryer combo machines?

I’ve stayed in multiple AirBNB’s in the UK and they all had them. I watch European shows on Netflix, and I have started to keep my out for laundry scenes. They all have these damn things. Is the extra 4 square feet of floor space simply that hard to come by? They have very little capacity. It takes 5 hours to wash and dry a load of clothes. Do Europeans just not wash their clothes as often as Americans?

They live in apartments slightly larger than a shoebox. What’d you expect?

why do europeans prefer soda warm and without ice?
why do europeans not tip?
why are public restrooms not free in europe?
lots of differences.

Those things are the devil. The worst part is once you start it they hold your clothes hostage during the full cycle. I can never figure out how to set them...clothes either never seem to dry or they get stuck drying for hours

This is it. They have more socialism, and thus are poorer than we are. They live in tiny houses, and their yards are so small they call them gardens.
My daughter and her husband are both PhDs, he a professor and she in public relations for a university. They live in Nottingham in a house that a middle class American would be glad to leave after college. It is actually half of a double.
I’ve rented AirBnBs throughout most of Europe, and in spite of the fact that I’ll pay anything, I find it hard to rent a home that a middle class American would live in. But it’s charming...lol.

In Japan there are very little to no dryers. Only washers. Block after block after block of apts & small ...there are no large houses....houses have their washed clothes hanging out on strung lines on all the balconies . Wet Undies everywhere. Yet the majority of toilets have heated seats.

The UK crams 66 million people into an area the size of Maine. Space is more at a premium there and in Europe in general.
This is not to say those combo washer/dryers don't suck, because they do.

And it's a front loader. I could imagine us going through one of those every 18 months at my house.

Don’t you realize we are lucky enough to live in the best damn country this world has ever seen?

More the size of Wyoming than Maine, but your point still stands.

And yet those small houses and Apts cost triple what your faux Tudor in the burbs costs. As for nice, larger houses, they do exist usually outside the city though. I have several friends living in different parts of Europe and they all live in nice houses or Apts. One friend in amsterdam bought the apt next door and created one big place. He also had American washer dryer and refridge because he had lived in the US for a few years.
But the euros use the allinone washers because they are small and more energy/water efficient.

I’ve worked with a lot of Germans. Some of them will wear the same clothes all week. Some of them only take one shower a week. Some don’t use deodorant. You can imagine the stench.

Because Europe was accustomed to having unsafe and unclean ice. Thus, putting ice in a drink is basically poisoning it.
Europeans don’t tip because the waiters are actually paid a high enough wage that they don’t have to rely on tips.
Restrooms are smaller as most properties are denser and smaller. So, with a lack of public restrooms in businesses, the state operates pay toilets where the money generated pays for the real estate and cleaning. As a result, public toilets in Europe tend to be much cleaner.
The washer/dryer combos are because European apartments are MUCH smaller than American ones on average. In fact, all of their appliances and furniture tends to be designed to take up as little real estate as possible.

Europeans smell bad naturally so they probably don't need to wash laundry that often
