I-10 through Louisiana (especially in Nola) has to be the most littered stretch of highway in the country. I-49 and I-20 outside of Shreveport are actually pretty clean.

It has a lot to do with the land fills in hwy 90 in Avondale. 100's of trucks a day are driving that route with their trash loads uncovered and trash flying out of the trucks.
I don't know why Louisiana doesn't enforce the litter laws more. Those over sized dumpster trucks and dump trucks are the real problem.

It's woven into the culture; people just don't care or don't see their own connection to the dirty condition of everything as they throw their trash items out of the car window or let their trash fly out of the back of their pickups, or dump bags of trash and seafood shells along the side of a street or road. Just where is "away?" when you throw it there?
Every time I come back it looks worse.

Went back last October drove through new Orleans. My brother and I looked at each other as we drove and said "What a shithole!". Still have Katrina leftovers everywhere and holes all in the roads.

When I lived in BR, piles of chicken bones and crawfish shells seemed to be a continual eye sore in the Albertsons parking lot

Everytime I come back it looks worse. Huge pot holes on most roads, road kill all over the side of the road, trash in the grass. I mean do people here just not care? The air generally stinks in most places. Leaving this state was the best thing I have ever done. Once you experience something else, you will never move back.
you live in fricking Little Rock

The best thing about Louisiana and the worst thing about Louisiana is the same thing, and it's that nobody gives a shite about anything.

I110 from airline out towards the airport has so much trash, it is unreal.

Speaking of...is there a land fill north of Baton Rouge? I am constantly seeing those large debris trucks with the tarps pulled on top losing trash along I-10 north. They keep letting shite just blow out the top and DGAF. Where are they going and can they not be fined for allowing that to just blow out everywhere?

For New Orleans: Mitch is a piece of shite and Sydney didn't kiss enough arse.
For the rest of Louisiana: no one cares.

1. A significant percentage of the population that believes its the government's job to clean up after them.
2. A government too cheap, lazy, and corrupt to clean up anything.

Yes, that is why there is so much trash along there.

LA is a poor state .. it's a trickle down effect.

My first thread on TD
Here you go OP. This is the first thread I started on TD after moving back to Louisiana. I still share mostly the same opinion.
The people here down voting or saying "it's like this everywhere" are the ones who have never left the state. It's a coping mechanism.
What i've learned since moving back down here is that people just literally don't give a frick. There's absolutely no sense of environmental awareness unless it's somehow detrimental to the oil field, and then they'll be pissed off about it. If you try to talk about the litter, bringing your dog in the house, or at the very least putting him/her on a leash; they will look at you like you have two heads.
The school system is absolutely terrible to the point that putting your kid in private school is a necessity if you live in BR, Laf, NOLA, or any somewhat large city due to all the culture in the state. There's absolutely no diversity as far as the economy goes. It's basically; oil field or related, personal injury lawyers, insurance, medical, or deforestation.
Also, every little girl in the state of Louisiana will grow up to be a nurse or work in a hair salon. Also, Louisiana is the only coastal state that's beaches look like a fricking Chernobyl. Dead birds, fish, and other animals can be found all along Louisiana beaches.
Between the terrible education system, lack of industry/economy, and just general shittiness; it won't be long before we move away again. I would not raise a family in this shite show of a state. It really is just a massive swamp.

I think if you wander outside of the interstate system you'll see that most other states have these same problems. I do agree, however, that we do have incredibly shitty roads, and worse drivers. We are a poor state. With that comes people who don't care about personal responsibility. Plenty of white and black trash that simply "don't care" and are incredibly inconsiderate of others are typically poor and the poor don't care that they are making their surroundings shitty. For every jacked up pickup with pipes that cuts you off and tosses shite out their window, that either lives with parents or in a trailer... or the rundown 86 cadillac with $15k rims on it tossing entire mcdonalds value meals out the window, living in similar situations; is majority of the litter. You find an inconsiderate driver that doesn't give a shite about their surroundings, i can pretty much guarantee they litter.
And the thing is, government relies on these types to exist. Their is no incentive for the government to have it's populace educated if an uneducated populace leans on government dependency.

yep, they could remove all the road signs and you'd still know when you cross the state line into La.

Went to Wisconsin for the game this year and it really was an eye opener. No trash anywhere. I was walking through Madison the Friday night and ran across some bums. They had taken up a little alcove together and were laying in sleeping bags. Even their bums were cleaner

I agree with what you had to say

Louisiana has basically the same natural resources as Texas and Texas is worlds ahead of Louisiana's economy. In fact, Texas is ahead of Louisiana in just about every measurable positive there is. It boils down to demographics, education system (lack thereof), and general DGAF amongst the population. Also, there's not a clean politician in this state.
