Currently in a 150 year study to see if the name change is viable.

Mississippi is more fun to spell.

The Ohio River starts in Pennsylvania and ends in Illinois.

I'm like 99% sure it's an Indian translation from "Big River"

Because "The Mighty Louisiana" just doesn't flow.

Cause it ends in Louisiana and Louisiana controls it. If it changes course and ends in Texas or Mississippi, well then ...

Another stupid post by you.

The state is named after the river.

I'm assuming the river was named before the state

I hate when people bring facts into a legitimate question!

Ever consider the state was named after the river?

Wasn't the state named for the river and not the other way around?

As much as I believe in "eff Minnesota" maybe it should be the Minnesota River. Without those headwaters there would be no river down south to speak of.
quote:
The Mississippi River-Headwaters watershed is a largely forested watershed located in the Northern Lakes and Forest ecoregion of Minnesota. As the Mississippi River begins its 2,320 miles journey to the Gulf of Mexico, it runs north to north easterly through the watershed's abundant forest and resources and large riverine wetland areas.

So then saying "Mississippi River" is the equivalent of saying "ATM Machine".

I met her accidentally in St. Paul (Minnesota).
And it tore me up every time I heard her drawl, Southern drawl.
Then I heard my dream was back Downstream cavortin' in Davenport,
And I followed you, Big River, when you called.

Bet that river was aggravating to have to deal with back when people first migrated and saw it for the first time.
Bet it was still faster to cross back then at 5pm though.

You realize it wasn’t named after the state, right?
Posted on 3/1/19 at 3:40 pm to WaydownSouth
Because Mississippi has more curvy letter in it much like a river
