Why was Anna Pou charged with murder in the Katrina Memorial Hospital incident?

I just finished the latest episode of the Apple TV series Five Days at Memorial about the Memorial Hospital euthanasia. I'd imagine most of yall who actually lived the event would have no real interest in seeing it played out in a TV dramatization.
Why did the state charge Anna Pou with murder? Was there some kind of political motivation? It seems pretty clear that there was no way those patients were getting out of there without dying and Pou & others did what they thought was best for those patients.

So, I was there on the Tuesday/Wed after landfall,,,,,,patients were being moved, and they were being triaged,,,,,,,to say they wouldn’t have gotten out of there is a far stretch,,,,,was it miserable, absolutely,,,,,,now did they euthanize them or did they push pain relief up to the edge, that’s a fine line and only those medicating them know what really happened, but I didn’t see any of that.

I also interviewed with Sherri Fink who wrote the book that this series is based on.

Totally uneducated guess? The local politicians wanted a scapegoat to draw attention away from their own failures.
Nagin, Blanco, and others say around with their thumbs up their asses until the storm was pretty much on top of New Orleans, by which point it was too late to do much for anyone who didn’t have easy transport.

Did the cops really show up in boats on Day 5 and force evacuate the remainder of the hospital in a single afternoon?
This is what the tv show did and suggests this is what forced Pou and others into the implied euthanizing.

There were boats showing up sporadically through the time I was there,,,,my time spent there was on the helipad and throughout the hospital triaging. We had staff down there on the ER ramp moving patients into boats.

My opinion is that the family members of those who died were obviously and understandably upset and believed they were intentionally killed, so the AG decided to take action as a political/PR move.
When I had elderly family members in the hospital that were dying, there were those that had accepted it and were only interested in making them comfortable. Then there were other people who wanted to do anything possible to keep them alive, even if it meant they remained unresponsive in a hospital bed indefintely.
I wasn't in these people's position so I can't say for sure what I would feel, but I think I'd prefer that my loved ones that were ill enough to be in a long-term care facility were made to be comfortable. Especially in those horrific circumstances. But the deceased patients' family members seemingly did not feel that way, so the AG went with it and tried to force a murder case.

Dr. Pou performed a thyroidectomy on my mother a few years ago.
I am admittedly a fairly cold person, most reactions are simply rehearsed for what is expected.
And when she walked in that room the night before surgery, she was quite possibly the coldest woman I've ever seen. It was shocking.
It was also exactly what I would want in a physician; as previously stated, doing a thyroidectomy on a 90lb cancer patient who had significant radiation damage was quite impressive. She did an amazing job.

You're asking why a lady was charged with murder for giving lethal injections to people in the south?
This isn't the PNW.

I agree with this assessment.

She's deserves praise.
How many Docs stayed at the hospital to care for patients? Most got the hell out of Dodge. She did a tremendous job in a horrible situation.
And yes, they were looking for scapegoats, truth be dammned.
Very few people have a true idea of what a nightmare, horrific situation they were in. Without exception, everyone I spoke with that knew what they went through thought she did heroic work.

All I know is watching that series, had I been in that position working and responsible for those lives without help coming in immediately, I might have given myself morphine.

Foti was running for reelection and wanted a popcorn headline. That is the entire reason why. When word got out that she was going to be charged, she agreed to turn herself over. Instead, Foti authorized a ridiculous kick-in-the-door night time raid on her house to garner publicity.
