Would You Drive This? 1997 Toyota T100 Xtracab SR5

Before the Tundra, there was the T100.
By the late 1980s, Toyota had established itself as the maker of tough, reliable compact trucks. It's "pickup", Hilux, and 4Runner models were very popular in the US, but they couldn't touch the sales of the full sized trucks like the Chevrolet C/K series or Ford F series.
So Toyota took their pickup chassis and stretched it, widened it, and give it a little bit bigger cab. The end result was the 1992 T100....Toyota's first full sized pickup truck.
The T100 wasn't a very big sales success. It was criticized for being much smaller, slower, and less capable than domestic full sized trucks. The truck's top engine was a 3.0L V6 engine with about 150 horsepower; later updated with a 3.4L V6 engine with about 160 horsepower. 0-60 came in about 11 seconds with the V6. You probably didn't want the 4 cylinder option offered.
What Toyota did offer was the same reliability and practicality that Toyota truck buyers liked in their compact vehicles, but in a slightly larger package.

Hell yeah. I owned one in 2002 for about 3 years. Great truck.

All day. I had a '91 that was a standard. Great truck.

For me it’s a too middle of the road truck.
No power, too slow, and no unique look. I think there’s way cooler looking classics like land cruisers, power wagon, etc. And if it’s just something to scoot me around town I’d much rather a single cab Tacoma from that era, just like that look more.

I'd rather my 99 Tacoma, but yeah I'd drive that anytime.

Not a bad looking truck.
It’s crazy how big current full size trucks are. That T100 was considered full size back then. It’s probably pretty similar size as the current Tacoma.

They'll probably get it too, super clean, less than 100k miles, 4x4, AND a manual trans. Only downfall is it's a 4 cylinder instead of the V6, but I wouldn't be surprised if this still brings in the high teens/low 20s range. People will pay more just for the manual trans.
It's crazy what all Toyotas are selling for right now, used and new. About a year ago I came close to pulling the trigger on a Gen3 4Runner to use as a daily. Very nice, Limited, 4x4, clean examples were around $7000. Now? A clean Gen3 4Runner 4x4 Limited can easily catch $15000. I've seen Gen4 4x4 V8 4Runners with 200k miles listed for $20,000. It's insane.

Absolutely. Those old Japanese trucks are great. I have a 100 series land cruiser and I love it.
Been looking to get an old Nissan hardbody as a second vehicle but the prices are crazy right now.

Yes I would. I know an ole Baw from Chackbay that still has one with over 400,000 miles on it. Only thing he ever did to it was oil changes and tires.

Toyota needs to put those back into production.

Absolutely! Solid, well-built & ultra reliable truck. Truck nuts baws won’t like it cause of the power & size

My dad had one. He sold it with 330K miles and it rarely had issues.

Friend still has one just like that, except red with manual transmission, that his dad bought brand new in 96 or 97. 275k miles and still runs like a top, but it does show its age. Interior is rough, and lots of dings and dents.

Still see a few of those around. They were kick arse little trucks.

I don’t want to live in a world where non-collector trucks appreciate. Too much like Cuba.
