ALS is a bitch.

Flair claims Mongo used to show up to TV with a large roll of cash to go partying and told him “I got more money than I got time.”

Surprised he lived as long as he did with it. He was a tough SOB

I'm sure there were copious amounts of coke snorted at those parties.

frick ALS. Horrible way to die. That shite makes cancer look like the common cold. At least with most cancers, you have a chance, albeit maybe just a small one. With ALS, you’re done.

The last two years of his life must have been just awful for him… he was basically bed ridden and could barely do anything. Yet he fought and fought. RIP Mongo.

Bears fans knew there would have to be a price for finally being rid of the old lady. The mold was broke after Mongo was created. I'm thankful he lived to see himself going into the HOF. I pray this isn't a rule of 3. We aren't ready to lose both Mongo and Ditka.

Flair, Mongo, Ditka, and Bobby Hull

ETA: Damn this picture makes me feel old.

The way Flair has been looking, he might be the next one.

Mongo’s dog, Pepe the Chihuahua, was one of my favorite things about WCW Monday Nitro.

Yes, yes it is. I hope no one ever has to watch a loved one or friend die from it. One of the cruelest diseases there is.

ALS is a strange disease that can vary greatly from person to person. It progresses slowly for some and exceptionally quickly for others. My Pops didn't live a full year after he finally got his diagnosis. He'd shown symptoms for around a year before the diagnosis, but still got around and all. It progressed rapidly the last 6-8 months. Others, like a guy who was in the support group my Mom was a part of, can have it for years with a slow progression. He was in his, I think, sixth or seventh year post-diagnosis and was still able to get around some with the use of a walker, and he could talk.

How it attacks a person is extremely variable, too. One of my big hopes for this world is that we can find a cure or treatment for it. Hell, I'd start with just a little understanding of the disease.

A friend only made it 6 months. He was only 42. It was terrible.

They've been running this on all of the Chicago locals and it's hard not to smile.
