Bergara B14 crest ..carbon fiber stock and fluted barrel to save weight. It’s a beautiful tack driver
Federal is making terminal ascent ammo for the 7prc now too

Get this Begara instead, in 308 with a suppressor

That’s nice but wouldn’t be the best set up for long range shooting out west.

The part everyone overlooks in every “mah old .260 rem will do that” pissing match is that the PRC comes off the rack with all the shite already done to load anything, and the bullet is what matters.
For what though? To shoot at 1000yds? To kill elk at 500 yds? Browning and Remington make a factory 1:8 twist 7mm rem mag. So what does the PRC do that the old 7 doesn't?
Does the PRC kill game deader? Will a 195gr kill better than a 160gr? Reinventing the wheel doesn't change that it still goes round.

The PRC is so you can play with turrets while the bull is walking over the ridge.

To shoot the bullet that you want to shoot, for whatever you’re attempting to do, like I said the first time.

It comes off the shelf with all the features that you’d need to specify to a gun builder and pay extra for to get in a 7 mag, like I said the first time.
What good does a faster twist barrel do if the saami length mag and throat make you load to a COAL that limits powder capacity?
The PRCs aren’t about raw velocity, they’re about ease in handloading effectively and consistently, which gives a better chance of being able to shoot the bullet you want to its optimal velocity accurately.

Bergaras feel barrel-heavy to me
It’s not just you, they put heavier than usual contours on most of their rifles. They do apparently have a couple now that are more sporter weight and are going carbon on some. I think with some of the more expensive bergaras you’re into custom territory with a prefit.

The 7mm rem mag has won 1000yd matches before these high BC bullets ever existed and killed plenty of game all over the world. First time for what? Buying a PRC maybe.

This sounds just like the 6.5 Creedmoor. Hornady marketing.

Their new designs are unquestionably "better" than the 50's Era belted mags. There's some incremental improvement in case life, geometry with high BC bullets, etc.
That said, for 99% of people it's irrelevant, and my hatred for the new stuff is primarily that it has driven up costs and driven down availability of everything else.

And it wouldn’t win those matches today. It also needed painstaking load dev and a custom cut chamber. That’s the entire point.

I told the OP to go buy a tikka superlite in 270 win. I don’t know why this strawman gets trotted out continually.
Hornady isn’t gonna come take your 7mag dude, it’s gonna be ok. It takes a lot more work and money to get a 7mag to do what a 7prc can do off the shelf. It’s fine if those things don’t matter to you, but they matter a lot to some people.

But they are going to make less ammo for the rem mag.
They've figured out a good formula for selling rifles and ammo. They figured out they can easily shift the market around through marketing and gun people are always game to buy new guns even though it'll never kill them any more game than what they already have. Once sales level off for the PRC stuff, they'll come out with a hybrid case thing, or a polymer case only caliber, or whatever else they can do to give 50 more fps. They'll make a mountain of ammo for it, partner with a sexy carbon fiber barrel rifle maker, and give themselves another nice boost in marketing.
It's basically how Mathews has kept themselves the sexy name in Archery forever, how Apple sells tons of phones, etc etc. Offer incremental improvements on a cycle, people will buy it.

I don’t even disagree, but Hornady doesn’t make guns, which is why the rifle makers aren’t threatened by their new stuff and will chamber for it. As for cartridges, they aren’t just pulling random stuff out of thin air and then marketing it, they are following wildcat trends in competitive shooting and commercializing them. Barrels got significantly better, then wire EDM pushed actions to the point that it’s now all fine tuning case and chamber geometry to push the most efficient bullets being the game. When competitive shooters get on YouTube and rave about a cartridge, those design features trickle down to dudes trying to lob heavies at blacktail, and eventually the market as a whole. Hornady would be dumb not to capitalize on what their customers are asking for.

That’s nice but ...
I want one cuz they're cool. But if you can find one, they're going for almost twice MSRP. It's an easy build if one were so inclined.

Christensen Arms has a sub $1000 line of lightweight, carbon fiber, guaranteed sub MOA masterpieces with great triggers and fantastic balance and feel .... find a dealer and hold one, you'll be sold.
I’m super interested in the new Evoke line. I have no idea what caliber I’d get through.

I'd spend the $2K more on a better outfitter and hope you have success.

A little tangential- attended Barbour Creek Shooting School - at Lake Eufaula,AL - 2 day course- shot their built 6.5 Creedmore 1000yd range . Extremely educational, top notch & accommodations . Max 10 shooters (5 pairs at each station) . Average 30% will hit a golf ball @1000yds .
They suggest 6.5 PRC for >700yds for elk or bigger .
Look them up- promise y’all won’t be disappointed !

I’ve read some pretty negative things about Christensen Arms online. Not that they make bad guns, but their customer support is abysmal. If you ever have any issue, you’re SOL on any support from them.
Edit: Seems like bad customer service, many QC isssues, and mediocre guns at best.
I would just avoid altogether and get a Tikka or Bergara. Something you know will be a shooter.

I hear this all the time on here as well as read some on some other sites “I read they don’t shoot” . But I have one and it’s flawless and a shooter (300wm mesa) and I know of probably 10 others between various friends and coworkers and nobody has had issues with them.
As for 7prc, I’m a late adopter and will not get one until it’s been around for 5-7yrs.

This always comes up when CA is mentioned here.
I haven’t read a bunch of reviews, but I own two, and one of my best friends owns one, and all three guns are nothing short of fantastic.
