At the kayak launch in grand isle a guy was slaying the trout on something under a cork this morning. Probably a shrimp artificial bait. What works best for you ?

The more I fish the more I form the opinion that it doesn’t really matter for shrimp imitation lures in South Louisiana. I like sparkle beetles in the firecracker color on a double rig under a cork. Don’t get me wrong I have used just about every brand but haven’t found one that significantly performs better than another.

I’ve been using the 4Horseman boom boom shrimp lately. Marker 54 has some good options. I think DOA is still the best if they are super finnicky but not as durable

You should fish for real shrimps instead of the artficial chinese ones.

Marker 54 has been a game changer for me. Even with kids on the boat I no longer get live shrimp. They are indestructible and the fish like them. We caught two four man limits of trout on them this weekend on the same 4 Marker 54 baits.
The smaller size ones don't hold up to redfish however big reds will break the hook but are fantastic in the fall and winter.

Looks like they come rigged to either swim forward or backwards. Which direction is better, and what color seems to work best? I’m getting too old to go stand in line with my bucket at Bridgeside at 4:45 AM.

Which marker baits are y’all using?
I see Shrimplets, jerk shrimp, glide shrimp, and hard plastic shrimp

The shrimplets are fantastic but small and the hook is weak a reasonable sized red will break the hook in my experience for small to medium trout they are perfect.
I typically use the glide shrimp under a popping cork just like you would use a live shirmp. I also have carolina rigged them and they have worked well.
I am not sure how well they would work tite lined I haven't done that before. Only been using them for about a year now.

I've stopped buying shrimp imitation like Vudu and DOA and just tie on what I already have in my box like a sparkle beetle or shrimp creole matrix shad.

Marker 54 glide shrimp and it's not even close. Tight lined or under a cork. Looks and acts like a natural shrimp more than a live shrimp with a hook through its horn or tail. Hard to beat a better set up and consistent producer than that under a 4 horseman cork. I love tight lining it so you can feel the strike, but sometimes that cork gives it a little more attention with the extra noise it creates.

I saw y’all caught some hammers. Stink crickets or plastic? I’m gonna holler, finally got all these doctors out of their Residency programs so I can go to the island this week and next.
