Anyone know where you can buy the old fashion wooden catfish slat traps around Baton Rouge?
I think someone posted about a store down in Gonzales that used to sell them!
Thanks in advance

My neighbor and I ran a few on the Amite offshoot a couple of winters ago till I spent way too long cleaning catfish on a Christmas day. 3 traps produced more than 200 catfish...

the wirenet traps work better if you above the line where they are legal for recreationals

I ran them a couple of winters. They were always full of fish. But lots of small ones. I was curious as to why. It seems like the baited nets catch bigger ones than slat traps do. Maybe I can modify them to increase the size of the throat? Will that help with bigger fish?

How big of traps are you running?? The ones my dad and I used to run in the Ouachita River wouldnt' have held that many unless they were small fish.

I dunno man. When they are running, they are running. Several years back I was running 5' wire nets. I had one hole I found that the first day had about 4' of catfish in it when standing on end. Almost didn't get it in the boat. Bent it to hell and back. Had 138 in it. Now, some of them were small, but there were several nice ones as well.

For those that were successful what did you use for bait? Where did you get your cheese. Any where around Baron Rouge?
