I have feeders in the back yard. Sunflower seeds makes for a good variety of birds and squirrels.

I have a Mississippi kite that pearches over my patio. I have to hose it daily, but not a problem.

There is a crow that comes by daily around lunch and wants bread. He dunks it in the birdbath and is gone.

Are there any drawbacks to having it around?

Not only are crows insanely smart, they're also notorious bullies and predators. If given the chance, they will pluck baby birds and rabbits from the nest and eat them. Ever wonder why you always see a crow being chased in the air by a smaller bird ?

I hate crows and shoot them any chance I get during hunting season

No issues. Can be rewarding, in fact.

Many stories of people feeding an individual crow and developing a "trading" relationship. If you make a small flat "feeder" where you place bread for the crow, let it watch you placing the bread/raw peanuts etc. on the platform. Place a selection of small shiny or colorful items on the platform, adding an unusual piece when placing the bread. Often, the crow will start to find items it thinks you like and leave them for you in exchange!

There used to be a crow that hung out at my parent's house. He'd drop rocks on my dad's cur dog. It was always entertaining to watch.

We had a pet crow when I was growing up. My dad always wanted one so he climbed a tree with a crow's nest in it and grabbed a chick.

It was great. She lived outside but she would come to you and sit on your shoulder. If you lived in the area and left your car window down, she'd fly in and grab stuff in your car for her nest. Candy and gum wrappers, dollar bills, the paper that coke straws go in, etc. She'd take off all of the clothespins that this old lady used to hang. She was ornery. She eventually got electrocuted in a transformer.

The thought of this is hilarious to me. I've got to start feeding some crows around the house now and see what they bring me

That time it was the neighbor. My dad worked for the Forest Service so we had a crow, some raccoons and a skunk as pets.

What's this about?

It eats when on the perch and poops on the patio.

Two were there today.

Interesting. I've seen one diving near my neighborhood the past few weeks.

People that free-range chickens, love crows and do everything to encourage them to hang around. Crows will chase off hawks and not bother the chickens. I've heard raw, unshelled peanuts are their favorite food. Dump a bunch out in a field to attract them. Keep doing it over time and you'll have a bunch visiting you.
