I've fished Western Louisiana most of my life, but I live in Baton Rouge now and I'm interested in learning more about this area. I've heard people talk about fishing Shell Beach and Hopedale, lake Borgne and of course lake Pontchartrain, but was curious where people catch fish out that way this time of year

I fished south lake borne yesterday and didn't catch anything. There's alot of rock barriers up against the shore and you can fish in the cuts between them. That's about all I know of Lake B

Its tough fishing. For whatever reason (more than likely huge freshwater influence from the Pearl River, Miss River, and spillway) the biomass of fish isn't even remotely close to that of South Lafourche and South Terrebonne. Yes, there are fish to be caught, but I find its very hit and miss compared to where I grew up fishing (Cocodrie/Dulac).

Often times the fish accumulate at community holes and you've got to take a number or as I prefer to do, go off the reservation. I don't fish with the crowds, but I've had little success in finding legal sized fish off the reservation. I've learned alot about the area over the last 5 years, but still have a long way to go to get consistent. I can usually go out and find lots and lots of 10-11.5" trout, and probably 30% of the time I get skunked. I don't have anyone that gives me intel, so every trip I'm striking out on my own to figure it out from scratch. Many of the people I know of that are consistent here have friends/guides that give them good intel. That certainly helps when you start off in the proper zip code.

Just my observations on the area. If I had a choice of where to go leaving from Baton Rouge, itd be Golden Meadow. You can hit all of Terrebonne bay and Lake Pelto from there. Most of the time, if you can't find some kind of edible fish in Terrebonne bay, you should take up golf.

Thanks so much for all of the feedback. It honestly may be worth it just to make the drive a little further south.

Fish the rocks and mouths of bayous all around borgne, pick a side. You'll catch all you want about any time of year, bass to reds and specks. Prob best in fall but can be good any time, summer is good. Have camp in Shell Beach, plenty times we just fish close instead of out in Breton sound.

RingLeader,
Dad and I did some resuscitating on the Revenge this weekend. The hull was in better shape than what I expected. Looks like we will have her ready before Labor Day weekend. If I’m on the lake, I will give you a shout.
