Hot Springs Ark Fishing Trip

A few buddies and I are staying on Lake Hamilton for his bachelor party next week. We're planning to fish Lake Hamilton and Ouachita. I'm super excited for a chance to catch my first walleye and smallmouth. Anybody have any cool experiences they'd like to share about this area?

I've fished Ouachita a couple times in the fall. Beautiful lake and area. Mostly caught "Kentucky" Bass. I guess they are the same as spotted bass. Other guys were using live crawfish or wacky wigged worms. I stuck to a Ned rig with a crawfish imitation plastic. Caught a bunch. Random walleye and largemouth here and there. Wife's family has a lake house up there and her grandfather and uncles catch some big largemouth in the lake during the spring.

It'll be my first time in Arkansas so the views are something I'm excited for as well. I'll be fishing out of my kayak.

Walleye will likely be off of points and in deeper water (25+ ft). I mainly fish smallmouth in the rivers, shad imitations are my go to. AGFC puts out a weekly fishing report that might be helpful. If the house is on the water at Hamilton I wouldn't stray too far from there. It gets rough when the boaters get out

Ouachita is the nicest lake ive been too. Lots of flies though in the summer that sting bring lots of bug spray

I just got back from Ouachita last week. Caught bass on drop offs and around docks with a drop shot white fluke.

Hopefully you fish during the week and not on the weekends. Hamilton will be a shitfest on the weekend.
Ouchita is big enough that it’s not that bad but there will still be a shite ton of boat.
You can always hit up skinny dip cove on Hamilton and party with everyone that’s out there.

Go to the Dam at Ouachita. Lots of fun with the stripers, bass, etc..

use live bait for walleye if available...

It's not exactly a bachelor party hot spot, but Garvan Woodland Gardens is a beautiful place if you wanted to see some nature. Has trails and great waterfalls, etc. Not too far from Carpenter Dam on the Ouchita.

We'll be looking for some nice trails and scenery too. Might have to check this spot out.

Lake Catherine state park is a great spot for hiking. I’d skip garvan gardens…more of a spot for ladies and kiddos

I'll keep that in mind.

Came to post this. Great hiking trails there.
I know this isn't an outdoor activity, but on Bathhouse Row there is brewery in the old Superior Bathhouse that makes good beer and good food.

I need to research more about these bath houses you speak of.

They're all along the main drag just off downtown Hot Springs. We stayed on Lake Hamilton and they were like a 5 minute drive. We were on one of the little islands in the lake in a condo, very pretty area.
One of the bathhouses is a gift shop that supports the national park that it sits in (that whole area is inside Hot Springs National Park.
One of them is a hotel with a nice restaurant. We ate brunch at the restaurant, better prices on both food and cocktails than I was expecting.
One is the brewery, one isn't anything currently, one is a museum, and a couple are still working bathhouses utilizing the natural springs and steam caves.
There is some cool history with the bootleggers and how spring training baseball got its start there. Overall the town is a little run down but it really seems like it could be nice.
Lake Catherine and Lake DeGray were each about 20-25 minutes from Lake Hamilton.

Ahhh ok. Sounds like something to check out. Coworker was telling me about the baseball aspect and how Babe Ruth would spend time there during Yankee spring training.

You do know these aren't 10 acre lakes, right??
You may can hit the docks on one area of Hamilton, but you can't fish Lake Ouachita in a kayak. That's insanity.

Don't get too excited. It's nice and all and Ouachita is the best lake in the state (and maybe the 4 states region) in my opinion, and the downtown is very cool but it's the Ouachita Mountains aren't exactly the Ozarks in October.
But, if you're from LA, it's going to feel like a nature paradise.

I could see that Jack but after last week that might've been the best damn vacation I've been on.
