Anyone have an experience hunting specks over silos?

Thinking of down sizing to silos to cut weight and space, but was curious on how effective they really are.

Specs work vertically. I don’t know anyone who runs straight silos for specs. A 6 pack of full bodies should be all you need with good calling.

We ran silos when I was younger mixed in with shells. Like Jim said, specks working overhead need to see that full contour. But we had great success with them mixed in. I feel the detail on them catches the eyes of specks and they look great in stuble.

Sounds good. Never hunted specks just snows. Was wanting to add a few speck decoys as last few years noticed more and more specks using fields around our camp in delta.

I’ll for sure look into full bodies and mixing in some silos

if you hunt them where they are less pressured, you will be fine.

Used the Dive Bomb silhouettes and socks last year and they worked well. Very light weight.

I credit our success to the equipment because our speck calling was horrible. My partner sounds like an ambulance and I refused to blow at them I was so bad.

Was this in Louisiana? I have seen some good SWLA speck guides comment online that the silhouettes and socks don't work well there.

If you use socks you have to run big spreads (like I do) and hunt them like snows almost. It’s a lot of work but I love it. Most people don’t like that much work though

No MS and the birds were not pressured.

Yea not worth all the trouble is SWLA. I was up for that in my younger years, but now that I'm older a dozen full bodies is just fine for me.

Just picked up 30 shells that someone was wanting to get rid of. going to likely add in a few dozen silo's just for more decoys in the spread. We will see how it goes.

Going to be hunting them around Rolling Fork MS. Not a lot—if any—pressure on them up there. So hopefully can get into it

Definitely not. Have seen some spots get thick with them around there, wishing I could get after them.
