I need something 2wd just for around the house to shuttle flowers, mulch, dirt, chicken feed, etc.

I already have a Polaris Ranger XP, but I really don’t want to put extra hours on it doing simple jobs if I can avoid it.

Anyone ever owned both and speak to their differences?

Get whatever has the most hauling space and biggest bed, and is the most comfortable to get in and out of a lot while you're working.

You'd be amazed at how much shite you can pile on a side by side when you're using it strictly as a farm/utility vehicle.

Just put a deposit on a MX Mule SE EPS. Be prepared to wait for either unit. Honda is focusing on the 1000 Pioneers and not making as many 500 or 700’s at the moment. The mule might be easier to get right now.

The Mule is great for utilitarian uses, Pioneer is good for utility, hunting, highway use, trial riding, etc., - it does all of these well, none of them great.

Depending on price I'd probably consider the Pioneer just because it is multi-capable. If the Ranger goes down, you can use the Pioneer in its place.

The cab in the Pioneer does get hot (due to engine heat), I don't know about the Mule.

The Mule is a working machine - nothing fancy. After our Mule seeing years of abuse in the woods I wouldn't hesitate one second to recommend a Mule to anyone that doesn't need any fancy bells and whistles.

I have a Mule MX, dad has a Pioneer 700.

The Pioneer is a more capably trail machine for the simple fact that it can be lifted and run 30" tires if you need to. There is no lift kit available for the MX and 28" is about as big as you can go. The pioneer gets HOT in the cab. Nice in the winter, sucks in the summer.

The Mule is easier to get in and out of and has a metal bed (opposed to the plastic bed of the pioneer). Pioneer probably runs a touch faster. The mule tops out at around 45-50mph. Of course, Mule is belt driven if that matters to you.

Finally got my hands on a Pioneer 1000-5 at the beginning of the summer, and love it so far. Heat coming up is definitely a thing, worse in the back seats than the front. Tbh, can’t go wrong with either.

That’s exactly what I want. Something simple to operate that is just for hauling and the occasional ride around the property with my kids.

Hadn’t considered that. JD quality went to shite over the last few years I thought?

Do you need two rows? If you're looking to go full utility, I would look at the Mule SX or 4010.

If you don't trust JD, you could always try to find a used Kubota at auction.

Currently have both. Prefer the Honda Pioneer. Also have both in our plant at work and overwhelming majority are for the Pioneer as well.
