I bought a Kimber Micro 9 a few weeks ago. Shot it at a range a little where I bought same day and it jammed up a couple times. The guy at the range told me to put a couple hundred rounds thru it because Kimber can have a break in period. Went back to range today and put another 150-200 rounds and had the same issues - failure to eject maybe 1-2 times per magazine. I've been shooting only new brass thru it also. Same results with 3 different magazines. I'm gonna use it in an enhanced carry class Saturday and maybe the instructor can show me something I'm doing wrong. Also about a third of the time, the slide lock won't release when I put in new magazine and rack it, and I have to rack it a couple times to be able to fire. But I think it's pretty clear I need to send back to Kimber and let them fix it under warranty. Anyone else had these problems with this gun?

Same bullets? Can you try a heavier bullet?

I found your problem.

Jamming and failure to eject are common issues with recent Kimbers. I'm in the market for new 1911 .45 ACP and I've seen so many complaints about it with almost all of their models.

Going with a Sig Scorpion if I can find one.

No experience with Kimber but my Canik had the same problem. Works fine now that it’s broken in but also heavier bullets helped. Maybe try something heavier than 115g.

Sounds like a Kimber.

For what you pay QC should be better. Their parts sourcing is horrendous, they gave MIM a bad name...

I've mostly used 115 grain, but I have used some 124 also. I do like the gun, so I'll keep trying to break it in. I have read about this issue online some, but I've also read success stories of people sending in the gun to Kimber and getting it fixed - so I'll do that if it comes to that.

Thank y'all for the help.

Did you clean and oil the gun after you shot it?

Put a little more than you thought needed. Don't soak it, but make sure it's got lube.

Some good suggestions listed that are simple:

1. The weight of the bullet - go to 124 grain and I suspect you'll not see the same issues.

2. Shoot it wet during break in

3. Big hands on a small gun - It is very possible your hand is contacting the slide, slide stop, and if you're not riding the thumb safety, the thumb safety, and causing the gun to malfunction.

LOTS of rounds thru my "cheap" Armscor Rock Island 1911 Ultra and nary a FTF, FTE or jam.

So far very happy with it.

Congrats on your new gun. I've been using a Kimber M9 as my main cc gun for 3 years now. I've had some minor hiccoughs, but no major problems. Once you've got it running well, it's a very nice gun for cc. I literally forget I'm carrying mine.

A few thoughts.

Always good advice.

Sounds like you're using good ammo. Trying different mags is also a good idea. On the KImber Micro 9 Forum I've read some say to use 147 grain bullets during the break in period.

That's probably a faulty "slingshot" technique. Small guns like the M9 can be finicky. There's a lot going on in a very small gun in a very short time period.

A return to Kimber is a good idea. Be sure their CS sends you what's needed for the return to be on their dime, not yours. Do make any changes to the gun at this time that might void the warranty. The biggest complaint I have w/ my M9 is that it literally flings spent cases a long distance, unlike any other semi-auto I have.

Keep us updated. I hope you can get it running shortly.

ETA: Be sure you're using round nose ammo, not hollow points. Bring a back up gun to your class. You don't want to be the guy w/ constant malfunctions, causing constant stoppages for everyone.
