I probably will just bite the bullet and buy a thermal. However, a friend mentioned these green light flashlights to me. Anyone have any experience? Any comments?

Thermals - I'm looking for the best bang for my buck here. We are talking about typically being within 50-200 yards. I'm not hunting out in open fields. I am probably plopping down in my box blinds after deer season. Flir? Pulsar? Model?

Don’t waste your time with the green lights

If shooting at less than 75 yards, get the AGM rattler 25-256

Just bait the fields at 50 yards from your stand when you get there.

Buy once, cry once. And it’s a good price at $1,099.

I paid $1400 after taxes a year ago and that was a good price then.

You don’t want to deal with setting up lights, batteries etc. you want to be able to scan your plots

hunted 100,000 texas ranch with little pressure and tried silent green lights and red lights-- damn hogs reacted quickly to both

Don’t waste time or money on lights. I have green lights and hogs run away when flipped on. Might as well use regular spotlight.

Get a thermal and be done.

second thermal thread today. i suggest you go read my responses in the other thermal thread.

sure a 25mm 256 resolution thermal will kill a hog at 75-100 yds. It will look like shite doing it.

OP - we need a budget to get started. if all you have is $2k then we are limited on what to suggest.

blanket suggestion - get the most you can afford. once you kill a few, most guys want a better optic anyway. Do your best to get a 640 resolution if your going to be going out to 200 yds. That 25mm 256 scope will struggle when zooming in

I will do that - should have probably posted in there.

I'm hoping to stay in the 3k range.

3k range

For a quality brand like pulsar you will be limited to a 384 resolution scope. The thermion XQ50 will be in your range. Their budget talion xq35 will be a solid choice also. The XG Talion will get you a 640 12 micron scope for just over $3k

You can get a cheap scope and likely a 640 for $3k but you will get cheap results for the reasons stated in the other spread.

I have a feeder 100 yards in front of my camp with a "hog light" on it - it glows dull green until something triggers the motion sensor and then brightens. Deer and hogs aren't bothered by the green light at all.
