Found a 3-4 foot shed among the insulation Please tell me it's not time for them to shed, and there is not currently a snake in my attic. I've been up there numerous times. And never noticed it. Don't want to have to burn the house down

Went for the up vote, but missed. Sorry.
We do have a nice king snake that we've spotted around before.

They shed periodically. Its probaly in there. I would pay to have a couple mice eating machines in my attic.

If your duct work isn't well sealed it will try to get into your cool air register on a hot day, then it will fall out of the grill over your bed.

Be happy. Snakes don't eat your food, chew wires, or transmit diseases to humans like mice and rats.

That snake is up there with its mate having slithery snake sex. Expect over a hunnert babies in the litter. Soon, mice in your area will become extinct.
Then, one night, you will awaken to salivating snakes, no-shoulder to no-shoulder, gathered around your bed, slitted pupils fixed on your pulsating carotid.....

I've actually had two snakes (that I know of) get into my house. Both were rat snakes. My wife saw the first one, a little baby, over the door frame of our bedroom/hall door. The best I can figure is it came in through a hole I drilled in the floor to the crawl space for a telephone line. Note to self, caulk around holes from crawl spaces. I caught the second one (about 24 inches) in the kitchen. Never told the wife about that one. Now that I've reinforced the air vents around the house with a smaller size hardware cloth I haven't found any snakes in the house. I do live "in the woods".
I'm a snake guy but I still don't care for snakes in the house. However, I do remember my dad finding the shed skin of my of my prize Sonoran king snake one morning next to the kitchen stove. A week later, when I heard my mother's scream from her bedroom, I finally caught that king snake. She thought it was a belt on the floor and when she reached down to pick it up it HISSED at her. Thinking back, that might have been about the time I had to move my snake collection from my bedroom to an area outside the house.
mctiger1985 I would suggest using that foam sealant to plug up any holes to your attic. I agree with everyone that it's a rat snake.

Snake skin found in the attic? Sounds like your teenage daughter was getting busy up there and her boyfriend left some evidence.

You shouldn't have a rodent problem.

Guess I should give it a name then. Im fine if it stays in the attic. Just dont want it showing up in my house.

When blocking up holes in your walls or floor I use stainless steel wool (at hardware store it will be near the sandpaper). The stainless will not rust of it gets wet and mice and insects will no chew through it.
